As Zach settled into his seat, he couldn't help but take in the scene unfolding inside the nightclub. Tables filled with people chatting over drinks, couples lost in passionate kisses, tattooed men exhaling smoke, and girls in provocative dresses moving sensually to the music. When his drink arrived, he examined it closely—a simple concoction of water with mint leaves and lime slices. He took a sip and wrinkled his brow in distaste.
"If you're not used to it, that's the usual reaction," Calliso explained.
"But how does one even acquire a taste for alcohol? It's just like drinking bitter water," Zach queried.
Calliso chuckled. "Getting used to it usually requires a reason. Like trying to fit in with your drinking buddies or trying to drown out some bad memories."
"I don't like it. I suppose I don't have a good reason at the moment," Zach admitted.
Calliso chuckled once more. "That's okay. There's no need to force yourself to enjoy it. I'm not a fan of alcohol either. I only drink occasionally to unwind."
"Hey, check that out," Jacksen interjected, motioning towards the dance floor.
Calliso turned his head to look behind him, and Zach swiveled in his chair to get a better view.
"Take a look at those ladies," Jacksen remarked, gesturing towards the trio of girls in short glittery skirts and bikini tops dancing together.
Calliso sighed, showing little interest as he glanced back at the counter.
Jacksen frowned at him. "Come on, Cal. Are you blind? Those girls are like swans in sparkly skirts."
Calliso chuckled. "Maybe to you, they're swans. To me, they're more like ducks in sparkly skirts. I don't get why some girls are into that whole fat lips trend."
Zach couldn't contain his laughter, covering his mouth as he chuckled.
"Are you sure you're straight?" Jacksen asked bluntly.
"Don't worry, I'm pretty sure I am. Those girls just don't do it for me," Calliso replied.
Jacksen sighed, glancing at the girls once more. "Your loss. You're the one passing up opportunities."
"What's your type of girl, Cal?" Zach inquired.
Calliso took a swig of his beer before responding. "I'm into girls who'd choose cozy café corners to read a good book over flashy nightclubs to dance like a stripper."
Zach smiled, contemplating his own preferences in a partner. Just as he was about to share, Jacksen nudged him, signaling to check out the dance floor again. Turning his gaze, Zach spotted a girl with pink hair in a sleek black bodycon dress, catching their eyes as she danced provocatively.
"Is she... looking over here?" Jacksen asked, sounding unsure.
Calliso followed his gaze to the girl. He scoffed and returned his attention to his drink.
"She's coming this way," Jacksen said, his tone tinged with nervousness. As she approached, he realized her focus was on Zach. Finally, she stopped right in front of him.
Zach was surprised. He was sure she was looking at him, but he didn't know why. Jacksen looked at him. Disappointment could be seen on his face.
"Hi," she purred, flashing a smile.
