Six weeks had passed since Zach last saw Clair, but he clung tightly to Per's assurance that she would return, yet the ache of her absence gnawed at him each day. He yearned for her touch, her scent, her laughter, her smile - every facet of her presence. Without her, his days felt colorless and somber, a stark reminder of how deeply he loved her. With each pang of longing, he vowed to himself: he would love no other, he would protect her against any rival, and he would safeguard their love with unwavering devotion. No one could ever take her place in his heart. He was prepared to do whatever it took to be with her, no matter where their love might lead.

Lying in bed, surrounded by darkness, he reached under his pillow for his phone and opened a picture of Clair. Gazing at her image, he whispered softly, "Are you okay? ...Don't do anything silly. Just come back safe," A heavy sigh escaped him. "Please come back soon... I really want to see you... I miss you a lot." After another sigh, he put his phone down. He remembered all the messages he sent her that she never replied to. It made him sad, yet he forced himself to gather strength, recognizing that despite the despair, it was the only path forward.

"State your purpose," Averith, the elder chief of the west, instructed.

Hilgen rose from his seat. "We've come to present a report on the four missing Fallens," he began.

"You have permission to proceed," Averith granted.

Hilgen recounted every detail of their investigation, from start to finish.

"I see you've put great effort into this investigation alongside your companions. Your insights you bring forth is invaluable. Now, should you possess a course of action, grounded in your deeper understanding of this matter, we are keen to lend our ears," Averith conveyed with solemnity.

Cerro stepped forward. "Please, allow me to speak," he respectfully requested.

The elder granted permission with a solemn nod.

"Though we have acquired information, our investigation remains superficial. We beseech you for patience. Grant us the time needed to ascertain the potential involvement of humans in this matter," he implored, his voice carrying a note of urgency. As he spoke, he observed the murmurs of the other chief guardians and sensed the tension rippling through the crowd gathered outside the platform.

The four elders, along with the other chief guardians, deliberated their request thoroughly. Once a decision was reached, silence settled over the platform.

"You are all well aware of the fundamental laws governing our kingdom. Any interaction with humans, especially as angthens, is strictly forbidden. If you require additional time, it shall be granted. The majority of the council is inclined to honor your request, given the gravity of the situation. However, should human involvement be confirmed, there will be consequences... for humans and even for angthens if complicity is found," Averith declared solemnly.

"We extend our gratitude," Cerro expressed, acknowledging the council's decision to grant them more time.

Turning her attention to Clair, Averith inquired, "Claireth? You seem unusually quiet. Is there something on your mind?" she asked, noting her silence.

Cerro cast a concerned glance at Clair, sensing the storm brewing beneath her stoic facade. Her tense posture and clenched fists hinted at the inner turmoil threatening to erupt. Alarmed, Cerro moved swiftly to intercept her before she could unleash her pent-up emotions. Standing before her, he interposed himself, meeting her gaze with a firm resolve. The silent exchange spoke volumes, conveying an unspoken understanding between them.
