Upon arriving at the house in town near the Medora mountains, Filbur wasted no time in readying his medical tools, foreseeing their urgent necessity. True to his expectations, after bringing all four rescued Fallens inside, he promptly commenced examining their bodies. Identifying several drugs in their systems, he immediately began treatment, extracting the substances and administering medication to aid their recovery and restore their strength.
As he concentrated on formulating and measuring antibiotics and detox medications at his table, monitoring the patients in their beds simultaneously, he heard the back door burst open. He swiftly stood up and hurried out. There, he found Per gently laying Zach on the couch.
"Fil, help him! I don't know what's wrong with him. I can't wake him up!" Per exclaimed urgently.
Filbur rushed to Zach's side, checking his pulse. "Quick, let's move him to the other room," he directed.
Per followed his instructions, feeling emotionally strained but compliant as she assisted in monitoring the other patients in the adjoining room. Despite her duties, thoughts of Clair continued to occupy her mind. Although she had chosen to help Zach and leaving Ark and Cerro to care for Clair after witnessing her condition, she continued hoping she was safe. She believed Clair's situation was connected to what had happened to Zach.
As Filbur tended to Zach's injuries, the back door burst open once more, followed by the voices of Ark and Per. "Please, not another patient," Filbur muttered, visibly distressed. Stepping outside to investigate, his apprehension proved justified - and worse than he expected.
"The dark power got to her again," Ark informed Filbur.
"Why did we hire only one doctor for such a critical mission?" Filbur muttered to himself as he approached Clair on the couch. Checking the severity of her transformation, he urgently asked, "First, why is she unconscious?"
"We electrocuted her," Ark confessed.
Per stared at him in disbelief. "You did what?"
"The collars. They have a remote control. We had to use it," Ark explained.
"There's no medication for this condition. It's triggered by extreme emotional outbursts, affecting both the heart and mind... Judging by the boy's injuries, it appears he was also electrocuted. That might have triggered the darkness within her," Filbur explained.
"Now I understand. That's why she wanted the old guy dead," Ark concluded.
"If it was driven by extreme anger, maybe we can bring her back to normal by calming her down, like Cerro did before," Per suggested.
"She's unconscious; attempting that trick is out of the question, and waiting for her to wake up is too risky... I imagine the last thing she knew was that the boy was in critical condition, or worse, dead," Filbur stated.
The room fell into a heavy silence.
"There is another way... but it's dangerous," Filbur cautioned, pausing briefly before adding, "and we'd be breaking a divine law." He glanced at Ark, his expression serious.
"What?" Ark asked.
"Would you consider altering her memories?" Filbur asked him.
There was a moment of silence before Ark exhaled deeply. "Fine, let's give it a shot."
"Are you sure?" Per interjected with concern in her voice.
"This brat nearly tore my arm off. If we can't fix this and she wakes up, count us lucky if we only lose a limb, or it could be worse. She's in the darkness right now, and it needs to be stopped," Ark said firmly, then turned to Filbur. "What do I need to do?" he asked.
