At night, the long-awaited call finally came through on Clair's phone - it was from Zach's number. She answered promptly.
"I believe I'm speaking to Claireth," a male voice said calmly.
"Yes," she replied, maintaining her composure.
"I'm sure you already know the purpose of this call," the voice continued calmly.
"If you lay a finger on him, I swear I will hunt down every last one of you and burn your souls in hell," she warned, her voice steady but laced with deep anger.
"Trust me, I'm well aware of your capabilities. That's precisely why we're ensuring his safety," the man replied, though an irritating undertone colored his voice.
"If you want me, tell me where you are right now. I'll come," she said firmly.
"I'd really like to have a friendly chat before we get started. I've been looking forward to finally speaking with you," he said.
"I don't have time for your nonsense. Tell me now what you want me to do," she replied impatiently.
"It seems I can't convince you," he paused briefly before continuing. "Tomorrow, in Medora Mountains, North Dakota. Meet me at the Blue Light Tower before dawn. Come alone and bring your weapon. We want to see it again, but one wrong move, and you'll never see the boy alive again," the voice said before abruptly ending the call.
Clair felt a heavy weight descend upon her at the ominous warning. Anger and worry flooded through her body.
"What did they say?" Per asked, her tone filled with concern.
"I'll go alone," Clair declared.
Per frowned. "I don't care if they're only hivrins; it's still too dangerous to go by yourself. They have weapons that can harm you," she argued.
"They'll kill him if I don't follow," Clair retorted firmly.
Per observed a mix of agitation and anguish on Clair's face. Despite knowing her as a fearless angthen, it was clear she was terrified in that moment.
"I'll go along with your plan," Clair informed Cerro.

Clair retreated to her room and swiftly changed into black tight pants, a matching black turtleneck long-sleeved shirt, and topped it off with a bold red leather jacket. She traded her white sneakers for sturdy black boots, completing her outfit.
As she adjusted her leather fingerless gloves, Per entered the room. "You're going out like that, without an armor?" she remarked, eyeing her attire critically.
"I have to," Clair replied, her gaze fixed elsewhere.
"It's like storming the enemy fortress naked," Per quipped sarcastically.
"Our bodies are ten times stronger than theirs. I'll be fine." she asserted confidently.
"Really? What if they use that syringe on you again?" Per asked, her voice laden with anxiety.
Clair sensed her worries and approached, gently clasping her hand. "You always tell me you want me to be happy... Then you have to let me do this... to save him... Others might see us together and think it's a mistake, but meeting him has brought me more happiness than anything else in my life... There's only one Zach for me... I can't lose him," she said earnestly.
Per understood, as she always did, but her concern for her was still evident. Just as Clair refused to lose Zach, Per couldn't bear the thought of losing her either. "If something goes wrong, I'll come after you. You can't stop me," she declared seriously, tears welling in her eyes.
