"Let's go somewhere," Clair invited, her eyes bright with excitement.
Zach paused in towel-drying his hair, concern evident on his face. "Are you sure that's a good idea? Someone out there wants to hurt you. It's risky to be out and about now."
"I'll be careful, I promise," she reassured him, her voice steady. "Our enemies usually strike at night or when there are no witnesses. We've been in hiding for a week; it's unlikely they'll attack now. And besides, I have you with me. You'll keep me safe."
He chuckled softly. "Okay, but you must be home before nightfall."
"Did Per text you?" she asked, a hint of suspicion in her voice.
"She's just concerned about your safety," he explained calmly.
She sighed, relenting. "Fine."
While Zach tied his shoes, Jacksen's voice called out from the door. "Hey, it's us. Can we come in?"
Zach walked over and opened the door. Jacksen entered first, spotting Clair sitting on Zach's bed, hugging his pillow.
"Hi, Jack," she greeted, a smile spreading across her face.
Calliso followed behind him.
"Hi, Cal," Clair greeted warmly.
Jacksen waved at her. "Want some churros?" he offered.
"Thanks. I just had lunch at home," she declined politely.
"You guys headed out somewhere?" Calliso asked as he set his bags down on the table, watching Zach draping his scarf around his neck.
"Yeah, mind if I borrow Zach for a bit?" Clair asked with a playful grin.
"He's all yours," Calliso replied amiably.
Clair chuckled softly.
"Clair, does Per have a boyfriend?" Jacksen inquired with curiosity.
"Well, not at the moment... She's not really interested in dating right now," Clair answered.
"Forgive his manners. He's just a bit desperate," Calliso interjected.
"I'm ready. Shall we go?" Zach asked Clair.
"Yes!" she replied eagerly, springing to her feet and reaching for his hand.
"I'll catch up with you guys later," Zach said to his friends.
Jacksen and Calliso watched them until the door closed behind them.
"Lucky guy," Jacksen murmured.
Zach and Clair strolled out of the dormitory hand in hand, their faces radiant with youthful joy. They walked along the sidewalk, lost in the bliss of their love.
"So, where do you want to go?" Zach asked.
"Hmm... Let's just... keep walking for a while," she requested softly, leaning into him.
"Watch your step," Zach cautioned, peering ahead. "Aren't you cold?" he asked, looking at her light attire.
"No," she replied.
"Does your home experience winter?" he inquired.
"We don't. Just wind and lots of lots of space. There's no night either; it's always bright. The light comes from above. Everything is provided in balance for us to live and do what we must," she explained.
"Sounds fun," he said.
She glanced at him. "You think so?"
"Yeah, especially the 'everything is provided' part," he replied with a smile.
