The Lion And His Lioness -- A Hamilton Fanfiction
Chapter 16 - Esperanza Washidoz Will SucceedAspen
I looked through the one-way mirror as I attempted to find the young girl I had sent back in time through all of the universes, mind reeling. Will she be successful? Did she figure it out? Has she picked the right man, Alexander? Did George Washington find her instead of Philip Schuyler? Will she have a daughter named Lillianna Rachel Hamilton? Will she succeed in correcting history? You see, in your universe I hadn't been successful in sending anyone back so Elizabeth Schuyler ended up with Alexander Hamilton when it should have been the person I sent back. In every other universe? I had been successful. I don't know why I wasn't successful in your universe, though... It is strange. But, then again, isn't everything?
Think about it. Out of the millions, trillions, of universes I was successful in all but one; Universe No. 213,000,100,130,000. Why? The universes may never know. But I desire to know, don't you? Put yourself in my shoes. You were successful with every universe but one. One out of millions, billions, trillions, gazillions of universes! Yet, I was successful in all but one. Why? Is there someone already ruling that certain universe? Impossible... yet, very plausible.
As I looked through the mirror, I finally found Esperanza Washidoz, descendant of George Washington. Looking at the situation at hand, I quickly walked through the mirror to hear what was happening. You can never hear through those mirrors for some reason.
"So I'll cry today, smile tomorrow
I'll cry today, smile tomorrow
Cry today, smile tomorrow
Cry today, smile tomorrow"The young girl sang, raw sadness evident in her melodic voice as she sang. Why? What had just happened in this universe? I watched as the girl stood up from the piano stool where she had just been occupying and walked over to the portrait of her ancestor. It was when he had first joined the army, back when he was much, much younger.
She walked over to where a family portrait was, her included, before her siblings had died. Glancing around the room, I watched as she looked for something that didn't seem to be there. What was she looking for?
"Where's the hope? The music? The fact that I'm stuck here, nowhere to go and nowhere to turn." I walked closer to hear as she continued in a mutter. "Why did you send me back?"
"You were the chosen one," I answered, knowing that she knew I was here put a sort of... comfort on the situation for me.
"Out of billions of people, you pick me, why? Why me?"
"You were needed."
"Couldn't you have just let Eliza have him? Why did you make me have him?"
"No, that was your choice, child. You could have told him how Elizabeth felt, told him that you didn't feel the same way as he did towards you. You could have turned around and told him how Elizabeth really felt but you made the mistake of allowing him to get with you and not her. Why change it now? You have a daughter, and you're expecting another child soon, are you not?"
"How did you know?"
"Child, my name is Aspen. I am the one who sent you here, the guardian of many universes. How could I not know? Plus, I have your story all planned out; what you'll do in this time, when you wake up, and where you'll go when you die."
"Why?"
"What do you mean? 'Why' what?"
"Why did you give me this responsibility? This pressure? And what do you mean 'when you wake up'?"
"Firstly, I gave you the responsibility because I thought you could handle it. No, I know you can handle this responsibility Esperanza Washidoz. You are a Washington, are you not? Secondly, there is no pressure. Just be you, the true you. Not who George and Martha want you to be, not what society wants you to be, be who you want to be. And lastly, in your time you're in a coma. Remember that accident? Yes, that made the spell I cast with my pack speed up. It was supposed to kick in at midnight on that night so that George found you when you were a baby, clearly it didn't work."
"So... I could die if I don't do this right?"
"Perhaps," I answered her. She looked at the portrait again before glancing at the people in the doorway.
"Time's frozen, isn't it?" She asked, walking towards Alexander only for him to continue to stare at where she originally was, unblinking.
"Yes. Whenever I come to visit you to give you some sort of guidance, time will slow to a stop until I go. But, that is only where I am visiting. Time is continuing in your time, not this time. Then again, I could allow time to continue"
"When I do wake up, will they be there? Or no?"
"Maybe, maybe not. You'll have to wait and see."
"I hate it when you're just vague."
"Well, how about we get them comfortable, eh?"
"Could I, should I, tell them? That I'm from the future?" She asked me quietly as we guided the frozen people over to the couch, Esperanza hugging Alexander from behind as she rested her chin on the top of his head.
"That's up to you, Nana. You have the choice. If you don't feel comfortable telling all of them at once, tell the person you trust most."
"The person I trust most?" She asked, messing with her courter's ponytail.
"The person you trust most." I confirmed, guiding her around to the front of them, making her look at each of them in turn. "Who do you trust most?"
"Lillianna."
"You've told her already. Plus, she's kinda six feet under."
"True... What about Ma? She is who I trust most, since I can't tell Lillianna or Daniel."
"Then tell her," I said before picking her daughter up and sitting her down on her husband's lap. She rested her head on his strong chest. Although time was frozen, I allowed Alexander to move so that he could wrap his arms around his lover. Taking advantage of the time he had to move, he shifted so that his face was hidden in her hair before he froze again, face frozen with his eyes closed and arms loose around her waist. I watched as Nana's eyes slowly closed, placing her hands on his chest and snuggling into him more.
I made my way over to where Martha and George were before getting Martha to stand up and guiding her into the kitchen. I positioned her arms before getting her to hold Lillianna in them, the baby immediately falling asleep. I then headed back into the parlour to get George. I got him to stand up before pulling his frozen body into the kitchen and standing him behind Martha. I wrapped his arms around her waist loosely and positioned his face so that it was pressed against her neck. Smiling at the married couple and their granddaughter, I made my way back to the parlour to move Lafayette, Mulligan and Laurens.
I dragged Lafayette and Laurens over to the three seats in the corner of the room and positioned them so that the two of them were sat in the seats, holding hands secretly. I then turned around and dragged Mulligan over to the duo to create the trio that we all loved, don't try and deny it! I got him to sit down and made his face into a face that seemed to be laughing, made Lafayette's face into a smirk that was pointed at Laurens and made Laurens' face go red in either a blush or embarrassment. I smiled at the trio before heading back over to the main duo.
I quickly shifted the two so that Alex was leaning against the sofa with Nana still on his lap. I smiled at the two, kissing the top of Nana's head before stepping through the mirror. Mid-step, I glanced back and smiled at the frozen, sleeping couple before fully stepping through. Once on the other side I turned back around to watch what they were doing.
I watched as Alexander tightened his grip around Nana slightly as they both slept peacefully. I watched as Laf squeezed John's hand with a smirk on his face making John's face deepen in colour and Mulligan laughing at John. I watched as George kissed Martha's neck before stepping away and going to the parlour, wife and granddaughter in tow, only to 'awe' at the sight of Alexander and Esperanza before him on the couch. Smiling, I knew one thing was already set in stone. Esperanza Washidoz will succeed.
