Chapter 25 - The Arrival of Philip Daniel Hamilton

I was sat with my wife, Rena, in the parlour when I heard a knock at the door. "Who is that?" I asked her, she might know. She looked at me with the same amount, if not more, confusion. "Are you expecting Angelica and Peggy today? Your brother? Your mother?"

"I'm not expecting anyone, Alexi. I don't even remember arranging anything with anyone to come over today." She told me. I nodded, patting her hand as I got up, before heading towards the door. I opened the door and was surprised to see someone from the army that delivered the letters.

"A letter for a Mr. A Hamilton." The soldier asked. I nodded, taking the letter from him and bidding him a good day before shutting the door and making my way back to my wife.

"Who was it, Lion?" Rena asked, sitting up slightly straighter.

"Just a soldier bringing me a letter."

"Who is it from?"

"Uh," I trailed off, looking at the signature. "Your father." I looked up at her, seeing the shock and realization in her eyes. "Rena? Rena, dear, what is it?"

"He is probably asking you back, after being conviced by someone." She told me, making her way over to me and hugging me around my waist. I held her close, resting my chin on the top of her head. She opened the letter, handing it to me in my free hand. I looked and saw what it said. Oh boy.

Alexander Hamilton,
Troops are waiting in the field for you. If you join us right now, together we can turn the tide. Oh, Alexander Hamilton.

I have soldiers that will yield for you. If we manage to get this right, they'll surrender by early light.

I had to leave. I had to leave for the war. The General needed me, our new nation counted on me, my wife counted on me, the freedom of my child counted on me. Everything counted on me. I will make them proud, I will make up fro hurting you, Rena... I promise... I promise you, I will make it up to you. I will win the war for you, Rena, I promise. You and our son.

I watched, a heavy sadness in my chest, as my husband rushed off to the field of battle where he was needed. I understand that my father needed his mind to win this war, but I needed his loving embrace ot get through these rough times of bareing a child. I never thought I would fully go through with the idea of having another child. Not after Lily... Definitly not after Lily... I guess I was wrong.

It had been an hour since I departed from the place my wife and I dwelled. The General needed me and that meant I had to sacrifice witnessing the birth of my son... If I had to sacrifice seeing my son when he took his first breath for his freedom then so be it. I would sacrifice anything for my family, even my own sanity, my own life... my own freedom, just so they could be happy.

I sighed as I watched my sister sit down on the sofa, looking at the pictures around her. "That would be enough," I heard her angelic voice sing, "would I be enough? Am I enough? What would be enough?"

"You are enough, Nana," I told her, sitting next ot her and taking her hand. She rested her head on my shoulder, her eyes never wavering from the picture. It was a picture of Esperanza and Alexander after they had gotten married. It was Alexander's wedding gift to Esperanza, one of which Nana cherished and kept close to her heart.
