Bailey's P.O.V.
.
Thousands of microscopic pieces of grainy sand oozed between my toes the moment they shared contact with each other. This beach was nothing like back home. Back home the beaches were grey and dirty, yet here the vibrant, happy colours radiated from the area.
.
"Wow." I smiled in awe. This beach had everything a cheesy American film did and more, it even had a small theme park near the end to top it all off.
.
Calum chuckled at my amazement of his everyday.
.
"You're such a dork, it's just a beach." He teased, lightly poking my ribs.
.
"Last one in the sea buys ice creams!" I exclaimed, sprinting as fast as my legs could carry to the clear, crystal waves.
.
I heard the thuds of Calum's feet become bolder and bolder before he raced ahead of me, his long legs giving him an unfair advantage in the situation. I watched in dismay as he bounded in the ocean, splashing around in victory.
.
"Calum watch ou-" I began to warn him before he smacked his arm into the elderly women behind him but it was too late, his muscular arm collided with the back of her head, with quite some force.
.
I caught up with Calum within seconds, just in time to witness the women's face snap around and grimace at Calum and I.
.
"Do you young people have no respect for your elders?" She barked at us as I began to quiver on the spot.
.
"I'm really sorry mam, it was an accident." Calum stated sincerely.
.
"Maybe mess around somewhere else until you learn to grow up." Her wrinkly lips responded flatly.
.
"Hey, I said I was sorry!" Calum responded, irritated by the women's comment.
.
"I'm sorry too, that your little girlfriend here can't defend herself." She spat leaving me and Calum equally confused. What did she mean? She didn't even know me?
.
"Excuse me?" Calum stepped in front of me protectively.
.
"I've heard all about you two, my granddaughter is Klara, I believe she's in your year?"
.
"You mean the annoying bitch that used to follow me around? Sure, I know her." Calum growled, showing a side I'd been yet to see.
.
He span around to face me and took my hand in his, leading me away from the shocked women. I released my palm from his and used it to smack his arm.
.
"A bit harsh don't you think?" I scolded him lightly.
.
"She did used to follow me around." Calum shrugged.
.
"Were you guys friends?" I invaded, curiosity taking over.
.
"I guess you could say that." He scanned the beach.
.
"I believe I owe you an nice cream Hood." I smiled up at his adorable features.
.
He turned his head to face me and suddenly his bad mood had vanished as his eyes light up like a puppy.
.
"I believe you do. Mint chocolate chip please." He grinned as I made a mental note of what appeared to be his favourite flavour.
.
Calum's P.O.V.
.
My fingers tapped the metal table impatiently as I waited for Bailey to retrieve our ice creams. I glanced over to the ocean as my eyes focused on Klara's grandma. I was aware I needed to tell Bailey the parts I'd purposely missed out soon, before she heard the wrong side of it, but I didn't know how she'd react.
.
I didn't want to loose her and the closer I became with her the less the likely it would be that I would. I allowed myself to think about the present, instead of the mere future as I focused my attention back to Bailey. I watched intently as her hands began to shake while she nervously asked the man for our orders.
.
Like me, she had come a long way in her ability to talk to people. Even if it appeared a microscopic amount to some, it was a huge deal for Bailey, and I was extremely proud of her. In the past months she'd gone from being too afraid to say a single word to anybody outside her family, to being able to talk to a handful of people one to one.
.
She still was unable to speak up at school and to most people in general but it was definitely a work in progress. Her plump lips began to clearly stutter as I watched the man grow impatient with her quiet tone. My chair screeched as I stood up instantly, striding towards her and wrapping my arm around her trembling body for comfort.
.
"One mint choc chip, and one vanilla please." I took over for her.
.
The man nodded whilst grumpily muttering out profanities.
.
"Thanks Calum." She whispered up into my ear causing my stomach to flutter. I loved helping her, she had become so important to me in these past weeks and I couldn't wait for the rest of the day.
