"This is it, huh?" Adrienne asked as they sat in the sand, the girl's head resting on her fiancé's shoulder. The boy was looking out at the water, savoring every moment with the girl.
"Yeah." Finnick said softly. "I guess it is." The two were silent for a few more seconds before he spoke up again, his voice almost a whisper. "I'll always protect you, Addy. You know that, right?"
He had no idea what Katniss and Peeta were planning, but it's been clear from the start that neither of them trust any of their allies, especially the District Four couple. For all the blonde knew, this was the last time he would ever get to talk to Adrienne. Ever get to hold her in his arms or talk with her about the most random things.
A lot can happen between now and midnight.
Adrienne lifted her head and looked at the boys furrowing her brows as she sensed the sadness in his voice. "Of course. I'd do the same for you."
The boy gave her a small smile, leaning in and kissing her cheek gently. "I know." He whispered.
Sighing, the blonde rested her head once more on his shoulder, taking the boy's hand in her own and squeezing tightly. "You snuck up on me, Finnick Odair." She said softly. "I never even saw it coming. I'm not sure how I was so blind to it before, but, looking back on it now, I wouldn't change a thing."
She lifted her head up, placing her chin on his shoulder and looking at him, though his blue eyes were looking out at the setting sun. The girl felt her heart swell just looking at him, knowing she made the right decision falling for him. Well, not like she really had a choice.
"You gave me something to believe in." Adrienne said. "Something to fight for."
Finnick felt his eyes brimming with tears as he looked over at the girl who he has fallen head over heels for. It was safe to say he was incredibly, completely whipped when it came to her. As he looked at her, every inch of her face, from her curled eyelashes to the freckle on her chin, he could honestly say this was his forever. His home.
"I love you, Adrienne Sallow." He said. "So much more than I ever could've thought."
She smiled. "I love you, too, Finnick Odair. Always have and always will."
The boy reached over and cupped her face in his hand, bringing the girl's lips to his own in a passionate kiss, which both the two tributes melted into right away. Adrienne has tears rolling down her cheeks, afraid of the uncertainty that came out of Beetee's plan.
She knew this was it. She knew this was Haymitch's plan coming into play. But she didn't know how it was going to end.
