Chapter~8

It was the first day at Hogwarts for all the new students. While the events from the evening before still had people pretty shaken up it was still the first day of classes. Draco was more than ready. Kate had come down from her dorms and Draco had immediately asked if she wanted to walk with her to the great hall for breakfast. She had agreed and so the headed on there way.

Draco couldn't help but look down at his left hand, the reindeer head was intricate. The individual hairs were visible, Beautifully contrasting colors giving the fur and burnt orange and copper color. He admired it more until he felt a small tug on his sleeve. He looked over to see Kate looking at him curiously. "Want to see?" He asked not knowing what else to say. She nodded and he twisted his hand for her to look.

"What are we all looking at?" a voice said from behind before Draco almost toppled over from a new weight on his back. "What the hell Pansy!" He exclaimed. "Draco how dare you swear in front of the child" she teases covering Kate's ears. "If you wanted to see you could've asked" he stated while personally removing Pansy's hands from Kate's ears. He bent down to Kate's level "are you okay or did that mean lady hurt you" Draco mocked. Kate smiled and giggled.

"I'll give you a mean lady" Pansy says chasing them into the hall. Draco and Kate shriek with joy dashing away. They sit down and grab some food as owls bring them their schedules. Draco looks down at his and groans "I have defense against the dark arts with the Gryffindors."

"I don't think the Gryffindors are all bad" Kate states "my best friend is in that house and he looks like he has some pretty nice upperclassmen, though I haven't talked to him yet." Draco smiled. "It's not like I hate them it's just they think we Slytherins are all evil and jump to conclusions. I mean they are good people, they just jump to conclusions before thinking things out" he sighs "I honestly wish the stupid rivalry would go away. No use now though"

"Don't say that Draco there is always hope" Kate says. "Yeah thanks Kate, by the way can I do your hair?"

"Of course" she responds. He combs her hair through his fingers. He takes a little bit from the top and works down till the braid is finished. He ties with a ribbon he found on one of the biscuit baskets. "Wow Draco I didn't know you knew how to do a Dutch braid. Why don't you ever offer to do my hair?" Pansy asks. "You never asked and I can't have her not look beautiful on her first day that would be a crime." He replies.

"She is cute I'll give you that..." Kate grins and Draco does as well. Kate hugs him, catching him off guard. "Thanks Draco" she calls rushing toward the hall "can't be late on my first day." Draco heard this and bolts up, he didn't want to be late either.
