A Pleasant Nightmare

Her hair was short, black and frizzy. It framed her small round face of freckled cheeks and big, green eyes.

"Hurry up! They are waiting for you!" She yelled in my face, and I felt my self moving my legs in order to keep up with her fast, little pace.

Did I know her?

No.

At least I didn't think so.

We stopped in front of a large door, she knocked before we stood there, waiting for an invitation to go in.

-Aint we looking peachy?-

I turned my head to the direction of the small, soft voice that carried too much sass for comfort.

On my left side was a girl around six or so, my height, with golden hair, dusted with a slight brown in a ponytail. Her eyes were fairly sized and looked a stormy, ocean silver. She smiled at me while wearing a knee high overall jean dress and a cream white shirt inside, complete with white ankle socks and tiny black pumps.

-Like the reflection?-

"Rukia?"

"Who's Rukia?" The green eyed girl asked me.

I stared at her and blinked once or twice before answering with a smile. She turned around and knocked on the door again.

Trying really hard to only use my thoughts, I tried again.

Rukia?

-Aren't I stunning?-  she asked, doing a slight pose.

Is that what I look like?

-Not exactly, I'm... more beautiful-

I rolled my eyes. She was so full of herself, and to think she was a part of me.

I was about to say something when the door in front of us was opened by a servant, leading into a large open space with a grand staircase at the end.

Little curly hair and I walked inside as the servant acknowledged the two of us.

Can he not see you? I asked Rukia mentally.

-Nope. Technically I'm still inside your head, so you're the only one who can see me-

Is this a dream? I asked her as we made our way up a flight of stairs, the journey making me tense for some reason.

-Do we really want to find out?-

I shook my head, and then stopped, realising that I didn't want to be questioned about sassy mental voices in my head.

We got to a large pair of doors, and before they opened, I heard a few snips of conversation...

"Its dangerous—"

"—they can't stay."

"—Think about what's at stake here..."

The door opened and we walked in, my hands becoming increasingly sweaty.

-Sister that's nasty!-

Shut up, I'm not in control here!

Everyone noticed us enter and the conversation died out quick. About four older people were in the room. Three men and a woman. One of the men and the woman looked... familiar to me. Just the way they smiled, the way their eyes shone... Her brown eyes and his pale blue ones... It was—

-Wake up Shika!-

What?

-Shika! You need to wake up!-

I didn't understand what was going on. But as I looked at the people in the room, my heart beat became faster and my vision started going red.

-Shika for our sake— WAKE. US. UP!-

My eyes shot open and I was staring right into a pair of crimson eyes... HUGE crimson eyes.

I wasn't in the room anymore. I was on a cold, metal, table, strapped down by my limbs and forehead. When I tried struggling against them, an overwhelming wave of heat took over and I suddenly felt weak. The heat, it seemed, was coming from the crimson eyes.

"I wouldn't bother candidate. There's no place my heat wave won't reach you."

"Jadis?" A chill went down my spine as I recognized the pair of eyes and panic set in, "What is going on?!"

Jadis chuckled and her eyes moved away from me. She wasn't anywhere near me, in fact, she was at the corner of the room, her eyes glowing with menace.

"What's going on?" She echoed, "What's going on is that we're about to start your transition, platinum candidate. As head of the medical command, I can..."

"But Linda's the commander!" I said while struggling at the metal bands on my wrists, "She won't let you do this without her be—"

"—Oh but sweetie she's not here! She went off on a mission with dear idiot Cameron not too long ago." She said, towering over me with a toothy, devilish grin. I turned my head away as she leaned down to whisper.

"The schedules need to be followed, specimens analysed and discipline implemented..."

I gulped.

"Let's start with the ghosting procedure!" She ordered a few doctors around, a dead scary seriousness setting into her face.

-Shika...-

You don't need to tell me twice.

I struggled against my restraints before another heatwave came over me, focusing more on my head than my body. Jadis smiled.

-It burns-

Rukia suddenly looked uncomfortable.

"That's not going to work," she cackled, "You know what? Let's get rid of that voice as well..."

-It burns... Shika, it BURNS!-

I could see the mental image of Rukia heat up to a scorching red. Without warning, I felt a shocking pain, like a hot blade being torn through my mind, and the image of Rukia dissipated.

"Rukia!!" I shrieked out her name along with the pain and the madwoman cackled again.

"Now now don't start wailing. She'll be back... I think..."

"Jadis stop..." I didn't even notice I was crying.

"No." She hissed, reforming the inhuman, menacing grin. I eyed a large, sharp looking metal tool in her hand as it inched closer to my eye. My vision was flashing multiple colours in my fit of fear and Jadis savoured every moment of it.

"I won't stop until I learn what gives you a high succession rate. Until I know what makes you so much better than ME!"

"STOP!" I shrieked just as her armed hand came down on my shoulder.
