Dawn.
~Shika~
I slept like a rock. No dreams. No fuss. Just an invited blankness that allowed my mind and body to rest. It was good, until I felt a tap in the side of my head.
"Wakey wakey sleepy head."
I groaned as I opened my left eye and looked up at my disturber of the peace, only to be met with lightning blue eyes.
"Cameron?" I got up and faced him, "What are you doing here?"
I looked around us and saw the sun just coming up.
"What time is it?" I asked while rubbing my eyes.
"About time you got off my laps." He returned with a bored look.
"What?"
"Yeah, you were sleeping upright yesterday and when I came to check on you, you appropriated my laps as your pillow." He crossed his arms and raised a brow at me.
"It was comfier than the bench..." I mumbled and his other brow went up.
"Any way," he got up, "I thought I'd come wake you so we could go to the barracks."
"Why this early? The sun isn't even up yet." I said while stretching.
"Because if you go any later, you will find Hector and Jadis—"
"Fine fine I'm up." I said reluctantly, "Do you guys even sleep?"
"Yes, you're just never awake or around when we do." He said.
After a small five minutes I was all refreshed and half ready to take what Cameron had ready for me. We were soon in the jeep rolling through the sand dunes on our way to the barracks.
"So what do you got?" I asked, turning my head to face Cameron, but found him smirking at me.
"What?"
"The fact that you agreed to come with is a yes to my offer from yesterday's talk?" He asked.
I looked at his questionable face with my mouth slightly open before looking out the window, "Your plan. What do you have planned?"
Cameron sighed and I heard him face forward, "We are going to the location of your parents' last mission... The Morveight Border."
"So why are we here?" I asked as we pulled in to a stop.
"Because we have a case of missing recruits, and it may interfere with our plans." He held out a hand, "Coming?"
I let him help me down and we walked towards the centre of the barracks. On the way, we kept getting salutes and curt nods, and Cameron had to remind me that we were lieutenants.
Yeah.... I was never going to get used to attention.
At some point we reached the Central medical command and I promptly froze in my tracks. An officer came out, saluting the both of us before turning to Cameron.
"Lieutenant Fang is in there now Commander." He said with a straight face and handed Cameron a file.
"Thank you captain, we will be right over." Cameron returned.
The man gave a final salute before heading back inside. I watched him go and let out a small hum as a realization hit me.
"What?" Cameron asked.
"That's the man who almost beat lil Addie to a pulp on our first day." I said thoughtfully and a bit absent-mindedly.
Cameron was quiet, then he laughed a little before taking my hand and pulling me towards the doors. I stopped daydreaming and came to a stop, snapping my hand away from his.
