"SHIKA!"
Jokul's voice boomed through his helmet to mine just as I felt a bony hand grab my shoulder. I was wrenched from my feet and pinned to the ground, my head ringing when I landed. When I looked through my helmet, the girl was on top of me.
Except she wasn't pleading.
Her face was dirty and scratched, patches of blood merged with her cheeks. Her eyes where bone white and glassy, no eyelids present. Her nose was pointed but bent at an unnatural angle, pulling her upper lip to reveal jagged teeth, with some missing.
Her hands were scraping at my helmet, and I used my hands to hold her back by the shoulders while she tried to snap at me, phantom shrieks leaving her mouth. For a small thing she was quite strong. She'd caught me off guard and frankly, I was too scared to think rationally.
"SHIKA!"
Jokul's voice boomed just before a lightning coated fist connected with my attacker's head. There was a sickening crunch as the girl flew off me, shrieking as she hit a nearby car.
"Shika you need to get up. We need to leave now." Jokul said as he pulled me to my feet.
My arms were scratched slightly and there was a bit of blood oozing out. Jokul took his jacket off, revealing his muscles in a tight black shirt, and forced me into it. His shoulders were tense and the air around us sparked.
"HeLP mEeEE!"
The girl was getting up again, her lower jaw hanging from a few loose strings. Jokul did hit her pretty hard.
"Let's go!" He pulled my hand towards the exit and I forced my body out of shock to run and try keep up with him, but the girl shrieked.
It was loud, shrill, and very skin prickling. The first thing that came to mind when I heard it was a screeching siren, the kind that lived in the water. It was awful and it forced my body to a split second stop.
Jokul didn't miss a beat and pulled me before I could topple from the sudden stop. We were near the entrance when another moan came from outside, joined by the same metal scrapping we heard earlier.
"Dammed witch." He cursed under his breath, "Up the stairs. Go!"
He shoved me backwards to the stairway just as a crowd of figures flooded into the entrance. I didn't have to think twice about what were were facing.
The Doomed.
I was at the foot of the stairs when a wave of blue sparks rippled through the building and caused me to jump three stairs up. A second later, Jokul was behind me and pushing me up the stairs.
"Hurry up! Get to the top!"
"HEeeEELP MEE!!! MEeeEEee!"
The witch was answered by a loud chorus of moans and growls, and more scrapping could be heard following us up the stairs.
We burst through the second floor and Jokul tugged me towards the next staircase going up. My heart was doing marathons in my chest and my lungs screeching just as bad as the witch, but I was on adrenaline and didn't pay attention to any of it.
Too focused on reaching the staircase ahead of us, I didn't notice something jump off the roof from my left, head twisted in the opposite of it's body and heading for me with claws extended. Jokul stopped just long enough to yank me to his other side, swinging his left arm straight, hard and quick to bash our attacker aside before pushing us on. I heard the sound of something crashing into metal and Jokul forced me to look forward.
