A/N: Okay but like Sabrina Carpenter is just stunning.
Third Person.
The night goes by slowly. After just one hour of sleeping, Maya wakes up to the sounds of Shawn downstairs getting ready to go to bed. He had dropped something in the kitchen while putting his dishes away, startling Maya awake.
Maya being startled awake half-wakes Josh who begins absentmindedly rubbing her back gently and whispering 'shh' over and over again for a few seconds to calm her. Although Maya can't tell if he's awake or asleep but she smiles anyway, her nerves calming.
She snuggles closely into his chest, breathing in his smell and tries to fall back asleep. It's easy for her to be lulled back to sleep in Josh's warm, safe arms. Soon she awoke again though, to Josh's moving in his sleep.
Her eyes flutter open in annoyance, turning slightly in Josh's weakened grip and grabs her phone. The time reveals that it's two in the morning and she sighs.
Next to her, Josh is still moving in his sleep, trying to get comfortable but having trouble. Maya frowns at him and tries to move away from his arms to go back to sleep, but he feels her do so and breathes out, tightening his grip around her, not wanting her to move.
So she doesn't. Instead she turns back and snuggles back into him, his arms tightening around her for a brief second before he sighs out in his sleep. His deep breathing is like that of a lullaby and Maya listens to it, letting it help her fall asleep again.
Two hours of sleeping pass by when Maya wakes again, this time to a terrifying nightmare that leaves her shaking in fear. Josh wakes up to Maya's harsh, fast breathing and pounding heart.
She's shaking and freaking out and he grabs her in his arms and shushing her, trying to calm her down. "Shh, Maya, it's okay." He whispers, rubbing her back.
Maya slowly stops shaking, focusing on Josh's soft voice trying to calm her down. He's wide awake in worry, watching her calming down in his arms. When she stops shaking, he pulls awake slightly and their eyes connect in the dark.
"Hey, hey, it's okay." He says, soothing her.
Maya looks at him with tired, scared eyes, her heart beating fast, her head pained from interrupted sleep.
"Nightmare?" Josh asks, his voice cautious and quiet. Maya nods and lays on her back, staring up at the ceiling. "You okay now?"
"Yes." Maya answers, her heart still beating fast in her chest but slowing back to normal with every beat.
Josh gives her a small smile and lays turns on his side, his arm wrapped around her back and the other on her waist, resting there comfortably. "Ready to go back to sleep then?" He asks and she nods, closing her eyes.
Josh hugs onto her side, bringing her closer to him and closes his eyes while letting out a deep breath. He listens to Maya's gentle breathing and falls asleep easily with her in his arms, and she falls asleep with thoughts of Josh running through her mind.
The next time Maya wakes is when her alarm goes off. Her eyes open to the annoying, dull alarm ringing next to her. It's not that loud so Josh doesn't wake, just stirs next to her as she reaches out and turns the alarm off.
She sees the time and her whole body reacts to it, feeling complete exhaustion. She's facing away from Josh, his arms wrapped around her as he sleeps peacefully. She sighs to herself really not wanting to get up and go to school.
Before she gets up though, an idea pops into her very tired brain. And so she unwraps Josh's arms from her body and carefully gets out of the bed, going to her bathroom.
