Third Person.
Two days later. Sunday.
Maya sighs at her reflection in the mirror. She'd been changing outfits for the past half an hour after her shower, her nerves all over the place. Today is the day she goes to court for the adoption to become official.
She wants everything to be perfect. To go smoothly.
Maya decides her clothes aren't good enough for a courtroom and she takes off the skirt and top she had on. She grabs a blue dress from her wardrobe and puts it on, deciding she's spent way too long picking something to wear.
The dress is simple, yet professional enough in her mind. Her make up is simple, with light nude eye-shadow, a small amount of pale blush on her cheeks to find fill the paleness of her face, and a light pink lip-gloss.
She walks away from the mirror and sits down on her bed, placing her head in her hands as her worries wash over her. She's not one to hope or be optimistic, that's why she has Riley in her life, and right now, she wishes her best friend was here with her.
Today is such a big day. So much could go wrong. The judge could say no. Shawn could decide he doesn't want to be her dad. The bad possibilities are endless.
A knock at the door interrupts her sad thoughts and she looks up from her hands. "Yes?" She calls out, not ready to move yet.
"It's me." Shawn responds, taking a second before coming into the room cautiously. He sees Maya sitting on the bed, her face pale, despite her make up. He can see the distress and anxiety on her face. "Maya."
His voice is soft and he walks over to the bed, sitting down next to her. Slowly, he places an arm around her, knowing she's worried and trying to provide her with some comfort.
"It's gonna be okay." Shawn tells her, trying to keep his voice bubbly and optimistic. "I know, it's scary thinking about going into the courtroom to finalize this but it won't take long."
Maya sighs, shaking her head. "But, what if they say no?"
Shawn lets out a quiet chuckle. "And why would they do that?"
"Because I have a dad already? They might say no because he's still in my life?" Maya's voice is soft and trembling, wanting nothing more than for this day to end nicely.
Shawn looks at the blonde in his arm, letting out a soft sigh. He knows how she's feeling and he knows she's not being rude by feeling this way or thinking these thoughts. She's just worried and it's not something she can help.
"Maya," He starts. "Your father signed the papers, his decision has been made and the judge will see that. It won't matter that he's still in your life, it only matters that he willingly signed the papers to give away his rights."
