KATE
After my shift ended, I quickly headed into the employee restroom to change for my sleepover with Corey. My father had sent me a text saying that he was running five minutes late so I figured that I'd have time. I quickly pulled out a flouncy white top and light blue flowered shorts with a pair of sandals and placed my uniform into my bag along with my black flats.
I quickly ran a brush through the knots in my hair and let it fall loosely on my shoulders. I put the brush back into my bag, put on a dab of lipgloss, then zipped up my bag before leaving the restroom. I waved goodbye to Axel and he did the same before I walked out into the sun.
"You got everything?" My father asked.
I nodded. "Yup."
I scrolled through my Spotify and chose a song that I hadn't heard in a while as my father and I pulled out onto the road, following the GPS on my phone to Corey's house.
We reached Corey's about ten minutes later and my father pulled into her driveway, which was already pretty full.
Corey's house was only slightly smaller than mine and yellow. She had a small white rocking chair on her front deck along with a few flowers. My father knocked on the door and a woman answered.
I could tell immediately that the woman was Corey's mother. She had the same hair color as Corey and the same eyes, the only difference being that she was slightly taller.
"You must be Corey's mother," my father said, shaking her outstretched hand.
"That's me," she replied and turned to me. "And you must be Kate. Corey's told me so much about you!"
I smiled politely. "Nice to meet you."
"Come on in!"
My father gave me a peck on the cheek goodbye and told me to text him if I needed anything. I waved goodbye to him and followed Corey's mother into her house, hearing the door close shut behind me.
"Corey and everyone else is upstairs. You can get settled up there if you'd like. Dinner will be ready in about an hour."
"Thank you," I said and headed up the stairs.
I found Corey's room pretty easily and opened the door.
Everyone's eyes lit up in surprise when they saw me.
"Yay! You made it!" Corey announced, coming up to greet me with a hug.
"Yeah, sorry I'm late, I had to work," I declared, setting my bag down and sitting next to Amy.
"No problem, I'm just happy you came," Corey exclaimed.
"So, what are we doing?" I asked, taking off my sandals and placing them beside her bed.
"We're playing truth or dare. Know how to play?" Kyle asked me.
I shook my head, making everyone gasp in shock.
"You've never played truth or dare?" Corey commented, shocked.
"No, how do you play?" I asked.
Corey explained the rules of the game, which were pretty simple. I agreed to play and everyone cheered.
"Okay, just to make sure you understand the rules, Kate, you can go first," Corey said.
"Okay," I stated, "Amy, truth or dare?"
Amy glanced at me with a shy smile. "Truth."
Kyle rolled his eyes. "I'm dating a wimp."
Amy slapped him lightly on the knee. "Don't be rude."
"Okay, when did you and Kyle start dating?" I asked.
Amy smiled. "Well, we met in seventh grade and started dating in eighth."
"Wow, so you've been together for three years?" I asked, surprised.
Amy nodded, her cheeks turning slightly pink.
"Okay, Amy it's your turn," Corey declared.
"Okay, um, Corey, truth or dare?" Amy asked.
Corey smiled, not batting an eyelash when she announced, "Dare."
Amy laughed, not seeming surprised at all. "Okay, I dare you to lick Kate's foot."
Corey wrinkled her nose in disgust. "Gross, you know I hate feet."
Amy only laughed once again.
Corey reluctantly looked at me and I wiggled my toes.
"Your feet better be clean, Kate," Corey said in disgust.
I smiled. "Maybe a little sweaty, but definitely clean."
Corey rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue. Her tongue felt wet and slimy against my feet, but it didn't feel gross. Instead, it actually kind of tickled.
"That tickled!" I exclaimed, laughing.
Everyone else just looked at me like I was nuts.
"Okay, my turn. Kate, truth or dare?" Corey asked me.
I bit my lip in thought. "Dare."
"Okay, I dare you to text that guy you've been talking to."
I blushed. "He's still at work, though."
"That's okay, just text him."
I took out my phone and opened my conversation with Axel.
"Okay, what should I say?"
Corey smiled. "Just say something flirty. It can be whatever you want just as long as it's flirty. Then, when you're done, you have tell us what you said and what he responded if he responds."
I nodded. "Okay."
I typed a message and hit send, feeling slightly embarrassed.
KATE - If u tell me smthg u noticed abt me, I'll tell u smthg I noticed abt u ;)
I took a deep breath and shut off my phone, focusing my attention back on the game.
"What'd you say, Kate?" Corey asked, her eyes light in curiosity.
I shook my head. "I'll only say if he responds."
Then suddenly my phone buzzed. I reluctantly picked it up, and sure enough, it was a text from him.
He'd replied,
AXEL - Okay, fine. Today I noticed that ur beautiful.
