A/N - Axel's outfit^^

AXEL

It soon reached lunchtime, and I would've really loved to be in the cafeteria where the rest of the student body was, but nope. I was stuck in the band room, practicing a song that I didn't really care about, nor need to practice.

And no, I didn't wish to participate in band, but I had no other choice. It was either that or choir and I hated singing, mostly because I believed that I was absolute shit at it.

So there I was, stuck sitting at a stupid piano next to Haley who was playing the bass guitar and paying more attention to my playing than her own, making her miss an occasional note.

"Haley, you're playing the wrong notes and it's messing up Tessa," the band instructor stated firmly, asking us all to stop playing with the simple flick of his hand.

Tessa was the singer in our band and she was very good but not nearly as good as Kate.

"I'm sorry Mr. Thomas," Haley said so softly that I almost felt sorry for her.

"Maybe you should pay more attention to your playing and not on Axel next time, okay?" He asked, making her blush.

"Um, y-yeah s-sure," she stammered.

"Okay, guys, begin again," he said, picking up his stick.

At the third swing, we all began and Haley managed to not glance my way the rest of the practice.

When the lunch bell finally rang, we all got up from our seats and I quickly shut off the piano and grabbed my backpack that rested at my feet, for once getting up to leave with everybody else.

"Hey, um Axel?" I turned around to see Haley behind me, tracing the ring around her finger. "I was wondering if you could help me practice the song?"

She looked up and her green eyes pierced into mine and I could see the tears brimming around her eyes. It was obvious she felt guilty about what had happened during the practice.

Haley and I had known each other for years and we were friendly enough that most people considered us friends. We'd been in band together for most of those years and I'd always found her sweet, but it was never anything more than that. She was also in most of my classes and was pretty smart, always raising her hand for every question, not caring about whether she knew the answer or not.

She was also very pretty. Guys spoke about her in the locker room all the time, but she turned them down whenever they asked her out. I knew that she had some complicated feelings for me, it was hard not to notice. But only one girl had caught my attention and she was mine.

"Haley, you know the song, you just got distracted," I said, smiling in a way that I hoped was friendly.

She shyly smiled back and adjusted her guitar case in her hands. "Well, I guess I'll see you later then," she said and walked out of the room.

I tried to avoid Haley for the rest of the day, which wasn't too hard considering the only class that we even had together is history. I know, ironic. However, it was my last period class.

During history, I sat in the front, which I never did. I always sat in the back of most of my classes because it gave me a better chance of not being called on. The only class I willingly sat in the front row of was English. My best subject.

As I sat there, doodling in the corner of my notebook with my pencil, I daydreamed of Kate and where I was going to take her when this boring-ass school day came to an end.

Oh, shit, I should probably text her and ask her if she needs a ride, I remembered.

That was the other reason I liked sitting in the back row. I could pull out my phone and send a text without the teacher even noticing. Once I'd taken my phone out of my bag, to make it less obvious, I put up my history textbook onto my desk and typed out a text to Kate behind it.

AXEL - Hey baby, u want me to pick u up from school? ;)

I hit send and quickly tucked my phone back into the side pocket of my backpack when the teacher wasn't paying attention.

Thankfully, I'd turned my ringer off so my phone didn't chime when she responded. When the teacher strolled over to their desk to pull up a video on their computer about World War Two, I quickly pulled out my phone again.

KATE - Yes, please :)

Damn it. She was so cute and she didn't even need to try.

AXEL - See you soon, baby ;)

Damn it, I was beginning to feel excited.
