KATE

The day after our fourth-month anniversary, Axel had broken up with me. I was devastated seeing everything we'd been through. We tried to remain friends, but after I'd found out he'd cheated on me with Haley while we were still together, I cut off all ties with him altogether.

I quit my job at Starbucks because it got too difficult to see him there once I realized what he'd done.

Now, I'm a junior in high school and planning on applying for colleges. I've never been happier. I've made many new friends at school and at my new job at Friendly's and my relationship with my father has even grown stronger.

"Axel", if you're reading this, I hope you know that I don't regret anything I did with you and that I'm actually better off without you. Most relationships aren't meant to last anyways, especially high school ones, but I still want to thank you for everything. You made me become the girl I'd always wanted to become and you've brought me to understand the importance of good friends. Also, I hope you know that I'm hard to replace and you made a mistake.

Now, reader, whoever you are, thanks for reading my story. My story, despite being a sad one, really turned out better than I ever would have thought it would in the end.

I still call my mother once a month and our relationship has grown into one of understanding. Although I'll never understand why she did to my father what she did, I know that we all mistakes, and Axel, of course, made a big one.

We're only human anyways, we're destined to make a mistake at some point in our lives.
