Chapter 64

KATE 

My father dropped me off at the school, giving me a kiss on the forehead before I headed out.

"Hey, Kate?" He called behind me.

I turned around. "Yeah, dad?"

"Do you have work today?" he asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, why?"

"No reason," he said, sighing. "Have a good day at school, I'll see you later on tonight."

I watched as he pulled out of the parking lot, disappearing around the corner. Why had he wanted to know if I had work? I wondered to myself as I walked towards the direction of my school.

"Wow, Kate, that shirt looks amazing on you," Corey said, admiring my outfit choice.

"I knew it would," Amy stated boldly, snuggling closer against Kyle, making him kiss her forehead.

"You two are more lovey-dovey than usual," I commented, raising an eyebrow.

Amy blushed beet red and avoided my gaze.

"That's because they did the deed last night," Corey whispered into my ear.

"No way!" I declared, a little too loudly.

"Holy fuck, Kate! Say it a little louder! I don't think old grandpa down the corner could hear you!" Corey remarked, slapping her hand dramatically over my mouth.

I licked her finger and she quickly pulled away with a gasp. "You licked me!"

"You put your hand on my mouth!" I retorted back, trying not to laugh at her shocked expression.

Her eyes had gone wide and her mouth was opening and closing, giving her the appearance of a fish out of water.

Suddenly, the bell for first period rang and we all headed into our separate directions. As I walked to class, I couldn't help but imagine how Amy had managed to convince herself to give away her virginity to Kyle. And then, I remembered that they'd been together for three years and then it all made sense. Even the girl that happened to be even shyer than me could grow balls. That's impressive, I thought.

AXEL - Hi beautiful ;) How's school?

Smiling to myself, I took my seat in the back of my U.S. history class and typed,

KATE - Boring asf. How's it for u?

The three dots appeared instantly before he responded,

AXEL - Abt the same. Work is more entertaining than this dump.

KATE - Ha ha. Wanna play our game?

He replied within seconds.

AXEL - Ofc babe. It's ur turn.

KATE - Okay. What's ur favorite date u have been on with me?

He started typing, but it took close to three minutes before he answered,

AXEL - Remember when I took u to the parking lot of the mall but never took u inside, and we just hung out and talked for close to 2 hrs? Yeah, that was my favorite date.

I smiled, realizing that I'd felt the same way about that day as he did.

KATE - I think that's mine too. Okie, ur turn.

The dots appeared once again, but then they stopped. Seconds later they appeared again.

AXEL - If u could confess smthg to me, what would it be?

KATE - Like, what kind of confession?

AXEL - Anything.

I thought about it for a second. A confession? What does he mean? As if sensing my confusion, he began typing again before saying,

AXEL - If u need a little help, I'll confess smthg...

The dots appeared again and he'd added,

AXEL - Katie, I love you.

And, just like that, my heart stopped.
