KATE
"Hey, Kate! You're going to audition today, right?" Aliza asked, coming up behind me.
I nodded. "Yeah, but then I have to go because I'm meeting up with a friend," I say.
"No worries!" Aliza stated cheerfully. "Just give me your number and I'll let you know by tonight if you got in or not!"
I nodded, giving her my number.
"Okay, cool. We meet in the theater in 5 minutes. I'll see you there!"
She began to walk away but I grabbed her hand.
"Wait, could I walk with you? I still haven't figured out where the theater is yet," I said shyly.
Aliza smiled reassuringly. "Yeah, of course! Just follow me."
And I did.
The school theater was large and I was surprised to see that there was actually a lot of people already there.
AXEL - I'm here. Lmk when ur ready. Take ur time.
I smiled and read his text before replying,
KATE - I'm gonna be a lil late, I got caught up with something. I'll be there soon.
I walked up to Aliza who had taken a seat in the front row. "Hey, Aliza, is it okay if I go first? My ride's already here."
Aliza nodded and smiles. "Sure, Kate, go right ahead."
I smiled and headed up the steps to the stage, taking my place behind the microphone stand. I lowered it just a few inches so I could reach it and cleared my throat.
"Say what your name is and what you'll be singing," Aliza said, scrolling through her phone that was connected to the stage speakers.
"Okay, my name's Kate and I'll be singing 'Hideaway' by Daya."
Aliza found the song on her phone and hit play, the intro blasting through the speakers.
I instantly knew when to start singing, and when I did, my voice came out loud and clear through the microphone. I sang the song perfectly, each note clear and strong.
Once I was finished, the room erupted in applause and Aliza congratulated me as I got off the stage. "Congrats, Kate! You're in!"

"Hey, there you are," Axel said as I hopped into his car.
"Yeah, sorry, I was in a club meeting," I said, strapping my seatbelt.
Axel surprised me by leaning forward and kissing my forehead. I felt my eyes close at the gesture and my cheeks got warm.
"I missed you," Axel said, sounding serious.
I smiled, looking into his eyes. "I missed you too."
He took my hand and turned the key to the car, the engine roaring to a start.
"Where are we going this time?" I asked him, choosing a song on his phone and pressing play.
"You'll see," Axel said, squeezing my hand in his.
He bobbed his head to the beat of the song as I sang along. Axel glanced at me, watching me sing. Feeling self-conscious, I stopped.
"You're a really good singer," Axel commented, before silently asking me to continue.
I did as he said, beginning to sing again.
We reached a large building which looked a lot like a mall and I turned to Axel. "You're not taking me shopping, are you?" I asked, laughing softly.
Axel shook his head with a chuckle. "No, you'll see."
I nodded and opened the car door, shutting it behind me. Axel took my hand again, his hand practically swallowing mine.
