KATE
I awoke, the memories of my night with Axel still fresh in my mind. Smiling, I reached over, rubbing the top of Max's head softly before tossing the blankets off me and getting out of bed. I picked up my phone off my bedside table, reading a text from Axel.
AXEL: Good morning baby. I love you.
My heart fluttered like it did every time he said those words. He'd said them to me last night when he'd dropped me back off at home, and the way that he'd say them, I could tell that he meant every single word. And even though I didn't feel the same way quite yet, it still made me feel good.
I pulled out a white lace shirt with sleeves with cut-out shoulders along with a pair of ripped light blue shorts and my tan boots. I walked into my bathroom to change, still not comfortable with Max seeing me naked yet, and slipped out of my pajamas. Once I was dressed, I brushed my hair quickly before tying it up into a messy bun, pulling a few strands loose to dangle around my face. I finished brushing my teeth before heading back out into my room to grab my backpack and phone.
KATE: Good morning :) I love u too.
I knew for a fact that I had strong feelings toward Axel, but I wasn't completely sure if that feeling was love. I'd heard it said that when you're in love you will know, and I was just not sure yet. However, I still felt like I should say it back because I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
"Hey, Kate, you look nice," my father told me once I'd gotten into the kitchen.
I smiled. "Thanks, you do too."
And it was true. He was wearing a light green shirt and a tie with a pair of dark brown khaki shorts and black dress shoes.
"Thanks, I have a meeting at work this morning so I had to dress the part," he admitted, taking a sip of his morning coffee.
While we'd still been living in New York, my father was always in-between jobs, never staying with one for too long for reasons that were unknown to me. He'd graduated from a business school at the top of his class but still failed to figure out just what it was that he'd wanted to be. Because of this, he'd never mentioned to me or my mother what his job actually was, so we'd never bothered to ask.
However, it seemed to me that he quite liked his current job, at least more than he'd ever liked the ones he'd obtained in New York, so I found myself feeling curious as to what it was that he did now.
"Hey, dad, what is your job anyway?" I asked him, swallowing down my pill with a glass of water.
He looked surprised by my question, probably because I'd never asked him before.
"You really want to know?" He asked.
I nodded. "Yeah, you seem to really like it."
He smiled, setting down his coffee. "I really do actually. I've started working for Apple and I find it fascinating how small pieces of technology can make up a phone," he exclaimed, sounding proud.
"Wow, you work for Apple?" I asked, totally shocked.
I'd loved technology my whole life. But why wouldn't I? There was so much math involved in technology.
"Yeah, there's an Apple store just down the street and I help the department that creates and sells the phones. Isn't that so cool?" He declared.
I nodded. "That's amazing! Could you bring me along sometime?"
He smiled. "I could see if I can pull you out of school, maybe tomorrow or something if you'd really like to come."
"That'd be great," I admitted, grabbing my lunch and backpack.
