KATE

I hopped off of my bed, rubbing my sleepy eyes with a small yawn. Walking to my dresser, I pulled out a t-shirt that said, "Be Positive" and a pair of ripped black shorts with my tan boots before heading into my bathroom to brush my hair, deciding to just let it fall naturally.

Once I was finished getting ready for school, I grabbed my backpack and cellphone before heading down the stairs.

"Good morning, Kate," My dad said, before taking a sip of his coffee.

"Morning," I responded, stepping around him, before pouring a glass of juice and popping my pill into my mouth.

"How'd you sleep?" My father asked me, tucking the car key into his pocket.

"Good, how about you?" I asked him, getting my lunchbox and stuffing it into my backpack.

"Not too bad. Ready to go?" He asked, opening the front door.

"Yeah," I replied, following shortly after him.

We settled into a comfortable silence once we got into the car and began the drive. But after a while, I broke it.

"Hey, dad?"

"Yeah?" He asked, stopping at a red light.

"I need more clothes for school..." I admitted shyly, my voice trailing off.

My father chuckled. "I'd figure you'd say that. I can take you shopping after school if you'd like?"

I shook my head. "Actually, I was wondering if I could go shopping with my friends after school?" I asked, knowing that Corey would be down.

Corey always seemed like the type of girl that had good taste in style. Seeing what she wore at school, I never thought I'd ever say this and mean it, but she could wear plaid and stripes and it would still look dope on her.

My father nodded. "Yeah, of course. Do you need my card?" He asked, hitting the gas once the light shifted to green.

"Actually, I was wondering if I could put it into my Apple Pay? I won't spend more than I have to, I promise," I remarked earnestly.

"Yeah, I know, Kate. I trust you," my father said, "My wallet's in the console."

I smiled. "Thanks, dad," I replied, finding it easily.

I typed his credit card number into my Apple Pay app and hit 'save card' before slipping the card back into his wallet.

We reached my school, my father giving me a proud smile. "I'm proud of you," he declared.

I smiled widely. "Thanks, dad. I'll see you tonight," I replied, closing the car door and heading into school.

"Hey, Corey!" I exclaimed excitedly.

Corey smiled. "There's my bestie!" She responded, just as excited. "What's up, bitch?" She asked, laughing.

"Wanna go shopping after school? I need more clothes. I only have a few outfits and your style is pretty similar to mine, so could you help me out?" I asked her, smiling.

"Of course! I love shopping!" Corey declared happily, swinging her arm around my shoulders. "Can Amy come too? We could have a girl's outing!"

I smiled, happy for the company. "Yeah, no problem."

Corey squeezed my waist with her hand, smiling gratefully. "I'm so glad you moved here," Corey stated.

I found myself saying "me too", as we walked to our first-period together. And I knew I'd meant it.
