It was grocery day, and she had come home right when I was about to leave for work.

"I got you something." She handed me a twist tie that had been tied in a loop.

"Aww, you got me a ring." I smiled, putting it on my pinky.

I went to work with it on, people began to notice.

"What's with the twist tie?"

"It's a ring, my girlfriend got it for me," I told them.

They just laughed.

Work was crazy, and it was a long day. By the time I got home, I was exhausted. The drive home took forever, and I was just so ready to crash.

"Hey babe." She called out from our room when I got home.

I rubbed my hands together, noticing that the twist tie was no longer on my pinky.

"How was work?" She said, coming over.

I was still looking down at my bare figure, a tear began to fall from my eye.

"Babe, what's the matter?" She asked, noticing me.

"I lost your ring." I cried, tears of pure exhaustion falling from my eyes.

"It's okay babe." She said, putting her arms around me. "I just gave it to you as a silly joke anyway. It's nothing to cry over."

"What kind of girlfriend am I?" I asked with a bit of a laugh, not even sure why I was crying.

"It's okay. I know you would never lose a real ring."

"Are you saying you're going to get me a real ring sometime soon?"

She laughed awkwardly, as though not wanting to think about that.

I just smiled at her, I liked the idea of her proposing to me.

"Someday." She whispered to herself. She said it so quietly I wasn't entirely sure I had heard her right.
