"Are you doing anything for Canada's day?" She asked as we walked down the aisle of the candy store.

"Nope, haven't done anything since my parents got divorced. That's a lie, last year I went and watched the fireworks with my dad, it was actually quite nice."

"Usually I get together with family, but I thought we should do something fun with all of our friends. You know, make a whole day out of it."

"Sure sounds fun. You think the others will be free?"

"We'll see."

It turned out that a bunch of our friends could come, as now that we were all older, no one really did anything special with their families for the holiday. We decided to go down to the beach where there would be a massive firework display at night. We came when it was still bright out, walking along the beach, finding a hidden away spot that we claimed as our own to watch the fireworks. We got ice cream and food, returning to our spot, which no one else had found yet. We played around and ran in the cold water, settling down for the night.

I sat down beside her on a small picnic blanket. We both done with playing in the water, watching and laughing at the others goof around in the water. Suddenly the fireworks began to go off shocking all of us. Those in the water stopped in their tracks, and we all stared up into the night sky with renewed childish wonder.

There were breaks between the extravagances of the fireworks. Between the breaks, our friends began to sit down on the edge of the beach.

During one break, I looked over at her. All of my thoughts and feelings for her over the past few years began to bubble to the surface, my crush for her overwhelming me.

The fireworks boomed off in the night, and I decided to go for it, seeing no consequences.

"I really like you." I practically whispered into the night, still terrified of her hearing my words despite the loud booming of the fireworks.

She looked over at me with those eyes, and I was falling. She just smiled softly, and I smiled back. The next thing I knew she was leaning against my shoulder, getting comfy to watch the rest of the show.

I leaned my head against her own, subduing my feelings for her. I didn't know if I would ever tell her if I could ever tell her. But that would be a problem for another day.
