Secrets Revealed

Chapter 12

Remus lowered his wand and Nova hopped onto Sirius' back. Just like when they were students and her legs got tired.

"Nova! Ouch! Get off!" Sirius yelled as he took on her weight suddenly. Nova just laughed.

Remus sighed as he looked around at the two fully grown adults acting like children and three defensive teenagers.

"Nova! Get down, please!" Everyone froze as Nova fell off Sirius' back in shock.

 "Children!" Remus scoffed.

"Remus!" Sirius exclaimed and hugged his other friend.

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT!" Hermione screamed.

Remus let go of Sirius and turned to her as she stood and pointed at him angrily. "You- You-"

"Hermione, now wait just a second-"

"You, her, and him!"

"Calm down, Hermione-"

"I didn't tell anyone!" She shrieked. "I've been covering for you!"

"Hermione! Please listen to me!" Remus begged. "I can explain-"

"I trusted you both!" Harry shouted.  "And all this time you've been his friend!"

"You're wrong." Remus said as Nova just shrugged. "You aren't helping, Nova. I have not been Sirius' friend, but I am now. Please, let me explain-"

"No! Harry don't trust him! He's been helping Black get into the castle, he wants you dead, too- he's a werewolf!"

Silence. Everyone looked towards Remus, who looked relatively calm, yet pale. Nova put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"You are not up to your usual standards, Hermione. Only one out of three of those are true. I have not been helping Sirius, and I definitely don't want Harry dead." He began and sighed. "But I wont deny that I am in fact, a werewolf."

Ron tried to get up but fell back down with a whimper. Remus went to go help him , but Ron gasped out,  "Get away from me, werewolf!"

Remus flinched and looked down.

"How long have you known?" I asked Hermione.

"Ages,” Hermione whispered. "Since I did Professor Snape’s essay…"

"He’ll be delighted," said Nova replied coolly. Sev was getting a severe talking to later.

"He assigned that essay hoping someone would realize what my symptoms meant… Did you check the lunar chart and realize that I was always ill at the full moon? Or did you realize that the Boggart changed into the moon when it saw me?" Remus asked.

"Both," Hermione said quietly.

Remus forced a laugh. "You’re the cleverest witch of your age I’ve ever met, Hermione."

"I’m not," Hermione whispered. "If I’d been a bit cleverer, I’d have told everyone what you are!"

Nova took a step forward to defend her brother but before she could open her mouth he best her to the punch.

"But they already know," he said. "At least, the staff do."

"Dumbledore hired you when he knew you were a werewolf," Ron gasped. "Is he mad?"

Despite the severity of the situation,  Nova chuckled and replied, "Just a bit."

"Some of the staff thought so," said Remua. "He had to work very hard to convince certain teachers that I’m trustworthy —"

“AND HE WAS WRONG!” Harry yelled. “YOU’VE BEEN HELPING HIM ALL THE TIME!”
