"Day two of our Christmas caroling!" I announced into the camera the next day. "This is a special snowy Sunday, and you're all about to find out why!" I gushed into the camera. "Our next visit is to Ms. Sheila Cosgrove. We're actually about to meet her and her boyfriend, Michael, at this ski lodge behind me. Michael requested that this be a special surprise for Sheila, so she's not aware we're coming. Once we get the green light, we'll be heading to them and we'll be singing 'Cold December Night'," I informed the audience.
Just then, I got an email to my phone, and turned back to the camera. "We're on!" I stated. I strapped the guitar over my shoulder and rounded the corner. I noticed the two of them just far enough away that neither of them would have seen us. I began to play the song as I approached them.
"What's going on?" I noticed a confused Sheila state as I got closer to them and she saw me. "Mikey?" she stated, turning back to him. He was down on one knee. It was so cute, and made me think about Andrew's proposal, which made it that much sweeter. "What are you doing?" she began to panic. People who had just gotten to the bottom of the hill began to gather, singing along with me. Michael had already hired a group to sing to them during the proposal, but he thought adding me would be the cherry on top. I was glad they were picked.
I was even happier to see Sheila say "Yes". There was a lot of cheering, clapping, and hollering. "I can't believe you got Song Bird to propose to me!" she stated, giving Michael a hearty smack.
"Technically, Michael proposed," I teased.
"This is so cool!" she squealed. "Can I hug you?" she inquired. I nodded and she bounced into my arms, then let go, still bouncing.
"Michael, why don't you tell us why you entered Sheila into the contest," I encouraged.
"She's just always so happy. She's a cancer survivor, and all throughout her treatment, despite being on the brink of death most of the time, she was the one smiling and cracking jokes and just being an all-around cheerful person. More often than not, she was the one encouraging us. I can't believe I was lucky enough to get such a beautiful woman to go out with me, and now agree to marry me. She's stunning, on the outside and the inside," Michael stated.
"You both seem to be absolutely wonderful people," I complimented. "Sheila, I'm happy to see you're better and I admire your strength and optimism. It's not an easy state of mind to stay in, especially in the face of adversity. You're truly one of a kind," I continued to sing her praises.
Andrew approached me. "Ah, and here's my better half, with the second part of your winnings. We've decided to make you an honorary member of our channel family, and our resident artist here, Panda, has sketched you and Michael as quokkas, which I'll admit, I hadn't heard of until Michael said this was your spirit animal. Could you explain why you picked this particular animal?" I inquired of Michael as I handed the sketch to Sheila.
"Quokkas are known as the happiest animals on earth, and they're also known for not being scared of humans. That's Sheila in a nutshell. Happy and fearless," Michael explained.
"Thank you so much, both of you," Sheila gushed. She wrapped her arms around Michael and gave him an impassioned kiss.
"Well, that's our third carol, and a surprise proposal to boot! We'll see you guys at the next winner's caroling!" I stated waving at the camera. Ella turned it off and I turned to the happy couple. "Congrats you two!" I beamed.
"Can we get a picture with you?" Sheila boldly asked. That was a first for me. But I put my confidence on and posed for a few pictures with them.
"Enjoy the rest of your day," I concluded our meeting.
