Better Days

The sounds of hospital machines beeping and the chatter of people caused me to awaken from my mysterious slumber. I looked around the room and saw Lucas arguing with Roddi who was sitting next to Daniel in a hospital chair. Shawn and Ricky were here. I knew it was not safe for Mom to leave home right now.

When I tried to sit up I groaned and rubbed my head.

Roddi stopped arguing with Lucas and stood up. "Dylan oh my god."

I watched the guys gather around the bed I was laying in. "I called Avie and Jas-mean. They're on their way." Daniel mumbled.

Okay so it's obvious I'm in a hospital.. but..

"What am I doing here..?" I asked.

"There's another patient down the hall. He was riding his bike and crashed into you. He explained everything and he doesn't blame you." Ricky explained.

I tried to sit up again but I felt pain in my wrist and ribs. All this from a bike crash? How?

"How did the accident even happen?" I asked.

"The guy said you were walking but you had the right of way. He couldn't slow down in time." Shawn said.

But why was I even outside. I was literally at Josh's house not too long ago. Does he know I'm here?

Lucas. I looked towards him and said, "Where's Josh?"

Roddi looked at Daniel who looked at Ricky who leaned against the bed. Shawn looked down at the floor. What am I missing?

"Josh had a class, he said he'd try to make it here." Lucas said reaching out and rubbing my shoulder.

An hour had passed so Daniel went to go mess with the nurses and Roddi left to get snacks. Shawn said he had to go have dinner with Katy and Maya while Ricky hurried home to check on Mom. It was just me and Lucas in the room.

I had moved over so he could sit with me. We were watching TV when I noticed the time. It was around 9:30pm Valentines Day.

"H-how much longer is he going to be?" I asked Lucas. He was quiet. "Maybe he had a family thing?"

I thought for a moment before I asked Lucas to go call him. He started to act weird again and went outside the room. I could hear him talking.

"She doesn't remember but they said she will if she talks about it. I was really hoping you were going to show up but if you don't by midnight-"

He stopped talking. "I don't give a damn Josh. It's f*cked up. All of it is."

The call ended with a bit more cursing but I couldn't understand why. When Lucas came back in he was trying to hide his anger but I could easily tell by him being out of breath.

He calmed down before sitting back down in his spot. "Dylan, Josh isn't coming."

"What? Why?"

"Do you remember this morning?"

Kinda. "Only a little."

Lucas turned his body to face mine. "I want you to close your eyes and think."

I began to protest but he quietly shushed me so I laid back and closed my eyes trying to remember.

"I was at Josh's house and I put a blanket on you so you could get more sleep."

"Okay? What happened next?"

I sighed. "I went to check on Riley. She was throwing up." I opened my eyes. "What are we doing?"

Lucas shrugged and urged me to shut my eyes again, so I did.

"Who did you see next?"

I don't know it's a bit blurry. "Um, someone in the guest room. A boy."

"Who is it, think but don't hurt yourself."

I think about what the boy looked like. Tall, bed head, soft and comforting smile... oh!

"Farkle. I see Farkle."

"Okay..."

"Its weird, he's worried about Maya. But why would he be?"

Lucas didn't answer. "I remember helping him look for her. He checked the kitchen. I went to look for Josh!"

"Where was Josh?"

My lip began quivering. He was in the shower. "Maya, she was in his.. our room."

I could feel my heart beating in my chest.

It was a mistake. He slept with my sister!

I heard someone screaming before I opened my eyes and realized it was me. I was choking on my sobs.

"L-l-Lucas.." He wrapped his arms around me as Roddi walked in.

"What happened?" He asked and Lucas explained I had remembered. Daniel and Roddi came inside the room and closed the door.

"My f-f*cking s-sister?" I cried. And Lucas rubbed my back while I laid my head on his shoulder. My ribs and heart hurt like hell. We laid down on the bed so it would easy some of the pain.

"W-why...? T-that's... he n-not here!"

Daniel and Roddi climbed on the bed. Roddi Hugged my back while Daniel hugged my waist.

The way they tried to defend themselves! They betrayed me.. they knew about what I've gone through and they betrayed me.

I was able to come down enough when the nurse came in and said I needed to relax. If she only knew.

I spent the next half hour sitting like this with the boys.

When Daniel got up to pee, Roddi asked if I was okay. "I want to go home." I mumbled. He nodded and got up to lay on the mini couch.

I looked up at Lucas and he frowned down at me.

"Thanks for telling me." I laid my head down on his chest.

He sighed and played with my hair. "Do you still love him..?"

My hands were shaking but I answered. "Yeah."

I could feel his chest rise and fall.

"Do you think you can forgive him?" Asked Roddi from the couch as Daniel came out of the bathroom. He sat in one of the chairs.

I bit my lip. "I don't know."

Daniel leaned his head back then rubbed his eyes. "The real question is, do you still trust him."

It was silent other then the sounds of the machines. My eyes were heavy from crying and I was exhausted. I let out a yawn while cuddling up to Lucas. Before drifting off to sleep I remember answering.

"Right now, my answer is no."
