Moving On

My brother Roberto Alvarez, Little Al as I call him was born on the fourteenth of June. When I held him for the first time it was like a wake up call for me. I have two brothers, two dads and a loving mother. Not to mention Joshua. My Josh.

Taking him home was no picnic. Roddi decided that he wasn't going to move out just yet. He wants to help out Mom and Ricky with our brother.

He actually told me afterwards that he and Maybelline plan to move in together when she's done with school. He isn't ready to tell our parents since he'll be back in Texas. I fully supported him with that.

On the other hand, it was time for me to start packing.

"Are you sure you don't need any help?" Mom asked while rubbing her eyes. She was leaning against the doorway in her morning robe. She looked exhausted enough as it is.

"Yes ma'am. I want to to go back to bed." I say standing up. "I'm almost done packing my last suitcase anyway."

Mom waved her hand in the air dismissing me. "I want to help. My little girl is leaving the nest." She frowns. "You don't need me anymore."

I roll my eyes and pout. "Mom, I'll always need my mommy, but right now little Al needs you more." I walk over to the doorway and hug her tight.

I can feel her squeeze back before I pull away. "Now to bed with you. When babies sleep.."

She cuts me off. "The mommy sleeps."

I nod to her. She blows me a kiss and heads back to her bedroom. I wait until I hear her door close, then I go back to packing my suitcase. I looked around my bedroom. This would be the second room I would be leaving. Maybe this room will be Roberto's.

It's around three thirty when I finish packing everything. When Roddi knocked on my door I just about peed myself. I was going to throw my hair brush at him while he laughed but I forgot I had already packed it.

"All packed?" He finally said.

I sighed. "Uh huh."

Roddi walked inside and looked around. He looked at each wall, the bed, and he even walked over to my window. He let out a long sigh then left the room without saying another word. Although he didn't say anything I knew exactly what he was thinking.

"I'm moving on.." I mumbled to myself in my almost empty room.

I ended up sleeping in until about eleven. I could hear Mom talking with Josh outside my door. When I sat up I noticed my door was actually open. "Hey guys." I mumbled.

"Hey!" Called Lucas, Josh, Roddi and Daniel. Mom laughed a peered into the room holding Roberto against her chest. "The boys are here to help. Your Dad is letting you use his car so, be careful."

The boys gave me literally ten minutes to freshen up. I ended up taking a five minute shower. My hair is a wet mess which I like to call double low messy buns. I put on a hoodie for a shirt and put my pajama shorts back on. I honestly was too messy to do any make up at all. When I left the bathroom the only one who seemed surprised was Roddi.

"What happened to you?" He asked. I have no clue how but the boys were in the middle of an Uno game in the middle of my room.

I groaned. "You guys only gave me a few minutes... nevermind." I walked over to the circle and sat down between Josh and Daniel.

Ten more minutes go by before anyone says anything else to me. "Wait," Daniel says after Lucas puts down his last card. I looked over at him feeling bored as ever since I wasn't actually playing the game.

"Aren't we suppose to be helping you?" He says standing up.

"You're just pissed that you lost." Roddi said standing up after him.

We all knew Daniel was going to start complaining, so we all got up and started to grab some boxes. That did not go as bad as I thought it would. Josh and Lucas only made a few sarcastic comments to one another. Daniel only bitched the whole time about the boxes being heavy and I would remind him that he is only carrying my hygiene products. There is barely anything in there! Shampoo, Conditioner, a loofah, some body wash and a razor. Chill. And then there's Roddi. Roddi decided to play with Roberto and only took one box downstairs to Shawn's car.

When it was time to take my stuff to Josh's apartment Roddi decided to drive and made me sit in the front seat. It's not that hate Josh still.. okay so maybe Lucas does, but it's like they wanted to punish him. So, they made Josh sit between Daniel and Lucas. That was interesting.

It went something like this..

"Are you excited to have your GIRLFRIEND move in with you?" - Daniel

"Get your elbow away from me Matthews. Thanks." - Lucas

"Is this the first time a GIRL has lived with YOU?" - Daniel

"Um.. well-" - Josh

"Hey. Hey Josh.. do you think-" - Daniel

"OH MY GOD! CAN YOU PLEASE SHUT UP." - Roddi

I just looked out the window the entire time.

Moving all the boxes into the guest room was easier than moving them out of my parents' apartment. It took about forty five minutes. Roddi said he needed to give the car back to Shawn, so he and Daniel went back downstairs. Lucas said he needed to speak to me before they left.

We walked to the hallway and he took a deep breath. "So, this is it. You're first step into adulthood."

I hold up my finger. "It's actually my first adult relationship. So this is kinda a big step." I pretend to flip my hair.

He smiles. "Well, good luck. I'm happy for you." He leans in and hugs me. I smile and hug him back. He gives me a small wave and turns to leave.

When I hear the door close I hear Josh behind me. "Ahem."

I lean against the wall. "Yes Bear?"

"He's happy for you?" He asked. He seemed off.

I roll my eyes and turned to face him. "Are you mad because you were forced to sit in the back?"

He shakes his head and walks off down the hall into the kitchen. I sigh and don't even worry about it. I head to the guest room and start to unpack my stuff.

Time to move in. This is no longer Josh's place. It's ours.
