I stayed the night with my mom last night. I'll admit I missed my bed and my Josh. So I decided to get up and tell Roddi I was going home. He was on baby duty.

The walk wasn't long. I enjoyed the view of the morning city. There's isn't many people on the street to worry about. It's a Friday and most people are worried about getting to work.

Before going inside, I had an eerie feeling. Something's off. I was right.

Josh was sitting in a chair watching some rerun of this alien space show Riley likes. He didn't seem to notice me come in. So I walked over to the chair and wrapped my arms around him.

"Hey Bear." I gushed.

He looked up at me and smiled. "Hey Dylan."

I snuggled my face into his hair. When he started to get up I stepped back.

"You wanna talk about Lucas? I'm ready to be rational." I say rubbing my arm awkwardly.

Josh bites his lip. "Maybe later.. you have a visitor."

I scrunched my eyebrows.

"Bedroom. They got here this morning." Josh kisses my forehead and went into the kitchen. I sighed and walked down the hall to our bedroom.

"You're home."

I leaned against the doorway and looked down. "Maya."

"Hi Dylan." She said getting up from the edge of the bed where she was sitting.

"Dad said you wanted to talk." I said keeping my eyes on the hardwood floor.

"I want to apologize."

I finally made eye contact. "It's been months."

"What I did was wrong." She said crossing her arms. "And I'm only sorry because I hurt you and Farkle."

She pauses while I let what she said sink in.

"You're saying your sorry because you got caught?" I asked raising an eyebrow.

She shakes her head. "That's not what I meant. Farkle was good to me, and all I care about was getting Josh's attention."

I didn't speak.

"I know what I said at your Aunt's. And I thought it was true. But, that night I wondered what it would be like to kiss Josh. I didn't intend on actually acting out." She stumbles on her words.

"I should have stopped him Dylan. He's met you and he's happy with you and I should have respected that. I kept my distance because I figured you kill me right in front of people in the park. But, I'm tired of not being around you guys."

She stepped closer to me. We were a few feet apart.

"Josh and I promised to keep distance for a while. Things would be awkward and we quite frankly both don't want to lose you."

"Maya stop." I say hold my hand up to stop her.

"For months I've been worried about you. No one had heard from you. I mean, yes I was upset with both of you, but with time we can get over it." I say reaching my arms out to her.

We hugged. I could hear her begin to sob heavily. I rubbed her hair as she did so.

"I'll tell you the same thing I told Josh. You're on probation."

I felt her nod silently.

I took a deep breath. "I've always wanted a sister. So, you haven't lost me yet."

Dad drove Maya to Farkle's. She said she's been meaning to speak with him for a while too. I warned her things wouldn't be pretty.

I stayed back so Josh and I could talk.

"Alright, let's talk." I said sitting on the couch next to Josh.

"Well, he's your friend. I get that. But I feel he's too involved in a relationship that has nothing to do with him. Sometimes I feel like you'd chose him over me."

I'd chose Josh to spend the rest of my life with in a heartbeat. I'd chose Lucas to get arrested with though. They're my boys, but I understand what he means.

"I had a chat with him yesterday about how he needed to back off." I say playing with my hair.

"How'd he respond?" Josh asked reaching out to take the stand of hair I was playing with and started to twist it lightly.

"He understands and he's just trying to not be lonely. I mean you've seen him at Riley's a lot and Farkle isn't exactly in the best shape.." I say watching Josh's facial expression.

He nods. "Roddi said he got arrested."

I look down at my lap. "How'd Roddi know?" I mumbled.

"Shawn called your Mom, and Roddi overheard. When you didn't come home last night Roddi told me." Josh said. I could feel his eyes on me.

Dad said he wouldn't tell Mom..

"What I wanna know if why Shawn helped get both Farkle and Lucas out of jail?" Josh stopped playing with my hair and he crossed his arms.

I bit my lip and looked back at him.

"You said you were going to see the baby."

I shrugged. "I did didn't I?"

"But that wasn't where you were going." Josh rolled his eyes.

"It wasn't a lie. I left out some details.."

"We just had a fight about them though." Josh said rubbing his temples.

"They are my friends, Riley's friends. I wasn't going to let them be alone for another few hours until their parents realize something was wrong." I take a few deep breaths.

"I could have helped." Josh said as he started to rub my forearm.

"I didn't think you would have wanted to." I admit.

There's a pause before he speaks.

"I may have a problem with the guy inserting himself in our relationship, but I still would have helped." Josh says. He tilts my chin up and smiles.

"I like to see you happy."

I pout and pull him into a hug. "I hate fighting."

"Let's not do it for a while then." He said rubbing my back.

We should try that. Oh well, life is full of ups and downs I guess. Some are just lucky to make it through it without any major damage.

Me. I'm lucky.❤︎
