Josh's Point Of View
Ever since Dylan decided I was on probation, Lucas has been coming around a lot. It hasn't been bothering me. He use to just call her a few times a week to make sure she was okay while she was away from her family.
I don't think much about that. I understand they are friends. But, I told her once before that I'm an observer.
Months before when I came to talk things out and apologize Lucas didn't want to hear it. Tyler said not to worry about all that. It's normal for him to act that way. He'd do it for Riley as well.
Daniel and Roddi however thought it would be best to hold him back but he had slipped loose and knocked me in my eye before I had a chance to even think about it. Thank God Dylan came in when she did..
When we were in her room I could tell he wanted to get under my skin. He would act as if he had never screwed Dylan over. What I did was an accident but it didn't mean I didn't have to apologize. He acts as if Dylan will always come back to him. But, I try to remember the fact that they are friends and she chose me.
That doesn't help all the times I've seen him after that. He usually has sleepovers with Riley since Maya has been keeping to herself.
He and Riley had been friends since middle school. Riley said that since Zay decided to move in with his grandma a few months ago he's been looking for a friend to spend time with. From what I've heard from her.. Farkle hasn't been doing too good either.
Anyway, it's like Lucas is everywhere I go. I know I'm exaggerating but that's how I feel.
So, when I heard his conversation with Dylan the day she completely moved in I didn't know if I should let it go or talk with her about it. From her tone of voice I decided to just let it go.
It's been two weeks since then.
"Bear!" Dylan called from the kitchen. I was trying to get laundry done and she offered to make lunch.
"In a minute!" I called back after pressing start on the washer.
When I walked into the kitchen Dylan was at the table munching on a ham sandwich. There was an open bag of potato chips in between our seats. I walked over and sat next to her.
"We ran out of Doritos." She said taking a few chips from the bag.
I shrug. "Regular is just fine."
After a few minutes of us eating she wiped her mouth with a napkin.
"I've been meaning to tell you something."
I chew my sandwich a lot slower than I was before. I give her a nod to let her know I'm listening.
"I found out a while back, and it slipped my mind."
I raised my eyebrows and finally swallowed. "What did?"
"Well," Dylan got up and took both our plates to the sink. "Don't have a cow, okay?"
I stand up and run my hands through my hair. "What is it?"
She took a deep breath. "Lucas got excepted early into NYU."
I blink a few times to make sure I'm not imagining things. "I'm sorry, I thought you said Lucas will be going the same school as us."
Dylan crossed her arms and frowned. "I did. But, it's not just him. Daniel will be there and Roddi said he was thinking of applying-"
I cut her off. "How does that help?"
"What do you mean?"
I sigh. "Lucas causes trouble in this relationship."
She scoffed. "Seriously Joshua." She rolled her eyes and made her way out of the kitchen.
I went to follow her but she went into the bedroom and locked the bathroom door. After about five minutes I knocked on the door.
"Bunny?"
There was a thud at the door.
"Dylan, can we talk rationally?" I say leaning against the door. I almost fell when she opened the door.
"Lucas is my oldest friend. I know what's happened between us has had an impact on our relationship. However," She paused for a moment and stepped out the room and walked down the hall. I quickly followed.
"However he's learning to move on. He doesn't mean any harm Josh." She was standing by the steps at the end of the hall, and I was only a few feet away.
"Besides, I don't know why you're bitching, he still has one more year of high school."
The look on her face is not one I've ever seen from her. Before I could respond there was a knock on the front door.
I went to speak and she cut me off.
"That's Roddi. At least it should be. I'm going to see baby Robby."
She turned her back to me and walked towards the door.
"When can I expect you home?"
She looked over her shoulder and shrugged. "When you learn how to trust me."
I crossed my arms and she paused. "Hey, I learned to trust you, so why can't you trust us?"
She left after that. And I knew what she meant by us. Her and Lucas.
