She's Trouble

A little over a week had gone by since the meeting. Today, Diavolo decided that Barbatos should walk Elaina home from RAD. It was their first time alone since the ball. Barbatos wasn't too keen on the idea. He still had that nervous edge about him when he was around her. True, it had gotten better once he admitted his possible feelings for her, but he was also still apprehensive to get too close, too fast. Diavolo had to remind him that it was just a short walk back to the House of Lamentation and then it was all over. Diavolo was sick of Barbatos being so wrecked over Elaina. He just wanted to grab him by the collar and shake him! He's lucky to have found his soul mate.

The last bell rang and Elaina emerged from the crowd leaving the classroom. She waved happily at Barbatos, a big cheerful smile on her face! He smiled kindly in return and nodded his head to her as he made his way over. "Good afternoon, my lady." He bowed. "Barbatos...please, I've told you before... Call me Elaina not 'my lady', it's too formal. I don't like it." She sighed. "I am sorry... Elaina." He replied shyly. She smiled warmly as she linked arms with him. He blushed at the sudden contact and turned his face from her.

They walked arm and arm down the street to the House of Lamentation. "Barbatos, thank you for walking me home today. It's much more relaxing than walking home with Mammon or Asmo." Elaina looked up at him as they were walking. His bone structure, his strong jaw line, his dignified look. 'He is sooo handsome' she thought to herself happily, then she lost her footing and stumbled forward. Strong arms gripped her around the waist and pulled her back up to steady her. "Elaina... Please watch where you are going. Stop staring at me. It is embarrassing!" His face turned a bright red. Elaina laughed and cupped his face. Barbatos felt uncomfortable but felt like he was frozen and unable to move. She pulled him closer to her and stood on her tippy toes to place a kiss on his cheek. She thought he was going to explode from the contact. She could feel his heartbeat against her chest. She hoped demons couldn't have heart attacks, because she thought he might have one.

Barbatos just stood there flustered and silent. He didn't know how to respond. He actually liked the feeling. It gave him butterflies in his stomach but at the same time, he was so caught off guard. He usually was more formal than this. She always made him feel on edge, she was spontaneous, and he wasn't used to it. However, this simple, innocent kiss on the cheek made him feel something deep inside. A small smile slowly spread on his face and he let out a little chuckle. "Thank you." He responded. "That was nice." Elaina just grinned. "You're welcome." She suddenly came up with an idea. "Want another?" She suggested. Barbatos slowly nodded his head. Elaina beamed. Her plan had worked. She stood on her tippy toes again, but this time she made their lips meet. Barbatos was stunned. His eyes widened and he hummed in shock as they kiss for the first time. A spark spread between the couple. It was powerful. It felt good, it felt right. Barbatos relaxed and deepened the kiss. He licked Elaina's bottom lip for permission and she opened her lips slowly, the hot and sweet tastes mixing and her heartbeat quickened.

Remembering where they were Barbatos broke the kiss abruptly. "Elaina... I-I... WE are in public..." Elaina pouted "So? Didn't you enjoy it as much as I did? Does it matter what people think, Barbatos?" Elaina huffed. "That is beside the point. Of course, I enjoyed it" Barbatos admitted. "But I do not wish to show affection in public. It is not proper. Especially with our current situation, no one should know except those who already do. It could cause more problems for us." He explained.

"I'm sorry..." Elaina whispered sadly. She knew he was right. She should have thought things through. She had always been a bit rebellious and free-spirited. She knew Barbatos was more reserved and she didn't consider his feelings or their current situation. Not everyone would agree with a demon being with an angel. Her father didn't even know yet and they didn't know if he would even accept it. She might be forced to leave. She looked at the ground, trying not to let tears fall from her eyes. Barbatos hugged her tightly. "It's alright my dear, right now let's just get you home. We can talk about this later." Elaina sniffled and nodded her head.

They continued to walk toward the dorm. "Are you mad?" She asked timidly. "No, my dear. I am not mad. I am actually somewhat relieved. I have wanted to kiss you for some time now, but I did not know how to proceed. You make me feel unlike myself. I feel as though my mind and body want two different things. I want to love you, but I am afraid. I am afraid to let you into my life. I have been alone for so long, and honestly, I never thought I would fall for someone as rambunctious as you are proving yourself to be." He teased. 

Elaina looked up at him in surprise. He was smiling down at her sweetly, he was opening up to her. He was more talkative and comfortable. She could still feel his nervous energy but she was glad he was finally letting go a bit. "Let's just keep those moments between us from now on though. Maybe then we would not have to stop." He smirked. They finally made it back to the House. Barbatos walked her to the door and placed a sweet kiss on Elaina's cheek, making her blush. "You are trouble, you know that?" Barbatos cooed. "So I've been told!" she chortled.
