Escape The Dead
Chapter 5- In The Bar
"Hey Gina, I have a question," said Jillian
"Yeah?" Gina swung and planted her sword into the zombie's skull. She tugged it out, then turned and continued walking down the sidewalk as the sun was setting.
"How do you think all these people actually got infected?" asked Jillian.
"I'd assume they got bitten. Usually any sort of body fluid does it, but biting is probably the number one source," Gina replied.
"Well yeah, obviously a lot of these people are bitten, but it looks like some aren't. The real issue is how any of these people got bitten in the first place. The zombies move a little slower than walking." Jillian paused, gesturing at an approaching zombie. "I mean, look at this. It's not like all the zombies we see are obese couch potatoes. He is, by all accounts, a fit looking male adult. Even at a light jog, hell no, even a speed walk, he should have been able to avoid a zombie no sweat. How did he get caught?" Jillian asked.
"I don't know. I think the bulk of people usually get caught unaware," said Gina.
"But who hasn't seen a zombie movie? Everyone should get the gist of how it works, especially once people start going for bites," Jillian explained.
"Well you didn't know what to do when I saved you," said Gina. "But you're probably right," Gina answered, watching as Jillian slid her newly acquired weapon through a zombie's temple. The girl's fencing was impressive, enough to impress Gina. "There has to be something other than biting."
"I guess it doesn't matter. Just thought it was strange." Jillian shrugged. "It's my turn to pick where we go, and I vote here." Jillian pointed.
"A bar?" Gina asked with a goofy inflection in her voice "Oh wait, I get it. Good thinking." Gina pushed the heavy door, finding it open. "Come and get it!" She shouted, holding the door open and standing to the side. After a few moments, a zombie walked out only to realize that 'it' was a blow to the head.
Gina smiled as she walked into the bar. The smell of alcohol still didn't drown out the pervading scent of rotting flesh in the air, but it was a little better inside the building than outside. She darted over to the bar, hopping over easily. She began to root around, drawing out a couple of dirty bar rags and then tearing them into little strips.
"What are you doing?" Jillian asked as she walked by, grabbing a bottle whiskey from the shelf and placing her backpack on the chair.
Gina snatched the bottle from Jillian's hand when she was placing her backpack down. Gina jammed a rag into the bottle.
"Are you... Is that a molotov cocktail?"
"Yeah, isn't that the reason why you wanted to come in here? I'm actually surprised that you thought of it or know about it," said Gina, shaking it around and sloshing the liquid inside. "If we run into another horde, this will clear it out real quick."
"Well, that is smart," Jillian said, grabbing another bottle and poured the liquid into the glass cup. "But I was just thirsty."
"So you're going to drink alcohol?" Gina raised an eyebrow.
"Well, right now anything would satisfy my thirst," said Jillian.
"I probably wouldn't even care, but in this situation, that's a bad idea. You shouldn't impair yourself when it comes to survival, you never know what could happen, and if you dull your reaction time-,"
"You climbed a dinosaur skeleton and jumped across a ten foot gap, and you're concerned about me drinking a little alcohol?" Jillian said.
