Escape The Dead

Chapter 6- Zombie Cat and The Gas Station Threat

Jillian nodded. She could hear a soft growl and see a pair of glowing eyes, just barely ringed with shining yellow. When Gina dropped the light off of Jillian's face and an outline started to form as her eyes grew adjusted. "It's some kind of big cat," Jillian whispered.

"What... like a lion or tiger?" Gina guessed

"Panther," Jillian said, slowly drawing her hand towards her rapier. She watched the cat's body stretch and go low. Her fingers squeezed around her weapon. "Duck!" Jillian announced.

Gina darted out of the way as the panther slung through the air. Gina's motion was nothing but a blur of pink, having missed its mark, the panther's whole body hit the concrete with a dull thud. In a slow, uncontrolled manner it raised itself off the ground. Gina got the light back on it. The beast was all rippling sinew rapidly twitching. Jillian stared at the black, mottled fur as she drew her weapon. The panther stared at Jillian with dead, dilated eyes for a moment before turning towards Gina.

"It's a zombie. It's a zombie!" Jillian warned Gina.

"A zombie panther!?" Gina drew out her sword as the panther pounced on her.

Gina use her sword to block the panther from biting her. She kicked the panther off of with her leg. It shook a little, dropping to the ground for a moment before beginning an uneven four-legged shamble towards her.

Gina gritted her teeth. "Jillian, keep the light on it, I can't hold the flashlight and fight at the same time," she said, tossing the heavy flashlight to Jillian.

The zombie panther immediately turned towards Jillian and began to stumble towards her with a deep wheezy growl. Gina ran and slashed against its side and head. The light focused on the pair of gashes on its head and side exposing the dented skull and ribs.

Jillian shrieked as the panther slung through the air again. "Screw this!" she said, rolling out of the way.

The only thing that the panther got hold of was the flashlight that Jillian had dropped. Jillian ran straight for the motorcycle. "Let's just get out of here. And I mean right now!" she said.

Gina nodded, pushing past at full speed and slinging herself on. Jillian hopped on behind her. The moment Jillian gripped Gina's stomach, the motorcycle lurched and they took off. Jillian spun around and watched as the zombie panther viciously pounded itself against the flashlight. After a few slams the light was gone, and she saw no more.

"Turn the headlights off," Jillian screamed into Gina's ear.

"Why?" Gina asked.

"I think it was attracted to the light," said Jillian.

Gina nodded. "You might want to hold on tighter," Gina suggested before easing on the throttle and doing as she was told.

Jillian nodded, squeezing against Gina and taking a few deep breaths to calm down. Jillian can't believe they lived through that. She was happy to have Gina by her side knowing that she was a reliable partner for a zombie apocalypse, especially when the apocalypse included zombie panthers.

"For some reason I feel like we're going to crash soon," said Joe.

"You're the one who wanted me to drive," Nicole replied.
