Escape The Dead
Chapter 9- A Sweet Blazing Reunion
Gina woke up seeing sunlight shine through the windows behind her. She stretched out her arms and yawned. She looked down to see Jillian sleeping on her lap. She must of slip down from Gina's shoulder onto her lap.
Gina gave Jillian a little shake. "Jill. Wake up," she said softly.
When Jillian didn't wake up, Gina shook her a little harder, "Wake up!" Gina said a little louder.
"Five more minutes," Jillian moaned.
"Well, we won't have five minutes if zombies start busting though the door. Now, wake up!" Gina yelled.
Jillian jumped up looking around, rubbing her eyes and stretched as she yawned. Gina got off the sofa and went up stairs to brush her teeth, Jillian soon followed. Gina grabbed an apple to eat as she packed up, ready to leave. Gina grabbed a satchel and placed some of the stuff from her backpack in the satchel. Gina also took a belt and handed it to Jillian.
"What's this for?"
"Your using that to carry your rapier."
"Oh." Jillian wrapped the belt around her and slid her weapon on.
Gina used any leather clothes to make a scabbard for her sword. She tied a rope to the scabbard that she made and swung it on to her back carrying the sword. Gina grabbed Jillian's phone and placed it in her pocket. They both had breakfast and left the house. Jillian carried her backpack as Gina carried her satchel. They walked out to the drive way when Jillian thought she saw a shadowy figure in the distance behind Gina. she rubbed her tired eyes and stared over to a massive expanse of black fur. It was ragged, clumping and matting as though it was dipped in oil. The air buzzed with a low, raspy growl as the mass rose and fell, each breath releasing the now familiar stench of rotten flesh. Jillian rubbed her eyes again while blinking a couple of times. Knowing she wasn't hallucinating, her eyes grew wide. Gina looked at her in a confused face.
"Is something wrong?" Gina asked.
Jillian had that same face when she first saw the zombie panther. She lift her finger and pointed behind Gina.
"I'm not sure if I'm dreaming or anything but that's a huge zombie bear behind you."
"Oh, not again," Gina did a facepalm not wanting to see what's behind her but Gina turned her head slightly to see the beast on the edge of the woods beside the yard of her house.
Gina may had glimpsed a picture of one now and then on the TV, but she had no idea how big and terrifying this beast were face to face. How truly frighting it was when in the flesh. Especially in the rotting flesh. It rose onto its hind legs as it roared and started to run towards them.
"Oh that's definitely a zombie bear," Gina slowly said.
"Yeah."
"We should probably leave," Gina suggested as the zombie bear got closer.
"Yeah, we should."
They stood there frozen for a while until they both yelled, "RUN!!"
They both dashed down the hill and the zombie bear chased after them.
"This way." Gina turned in an instant through the woods as Jillian followed, thinking they could lose it in the vast woods. "Is it keeping up with us?" Gina asked as she hurdled over a fallen and rotting log.
It took a second for Jillian to risk glancing over her shoulder. She did just in time to see the bear bust through the log as easily as a track runner through a ribbon. It shambled awkwardly, each leg seeming to move at its own pace and rhythm. But even with its mistimed gait, it seemed to move as fast as an average running human.
