[46] Dmitri's Dilemma

I just want to finish this whole story before I start working again.

Okay, so I changed some part in Ch. 37. Dmitri isn't aware of Jesse's treachery against Phil and he only paid the debt to make sure Chloe is safe.

"Phil?" Chloe spoke when she woke up, she then realized that it's Dmitri who's beside her that moment. It was already morning, she wondered how long she passed out and couldn't recall how she got in the hospital.

"How are you feeling?" Dmitri didn't mind if she looked for another man when she woke up, all he cared about is her health. It broke his heart further when he got a message from Chloe's neurosurgeon that she may need to undergo surgery again as there is another tumor that could end her life in a couple of months. Her chances of surviving the surgery is lower this time, however, she may die of an aneurysm anytime.

"I'm okay. What are you doing here? Where's Phil?" Chloe asked.

"Babe, he said he has some things to do," Dmitri lied. He had a feeling that Phil was an important person to Chloe but still has no clue about the true nature of her relationship with him. He didn't want to upset her because she's still in delicate condition.

Chloe nodded, still thinking about what Phil said to her that night. All the new information overwhelmed her.

Dmitri caressed her face, "We're going back to New York tomorrow, okay?"

"What happened?" Chloe asked. "Why am I here?"

"Phil brought you here last night. You fainted after having a nosebleed."

"But I'm okay now, why do I have to go back? You promised that you will let me have this trip alone."

Dmitri looked at her, "Baby, your doctor called and said you will need to undergo surgery again. Your tumor is back."

Chloe felt weak as if her soul suddenly left her body. "What? A-are you sure? Everything was fine when I left."

"He made a mistake, and you need to go back to New York."

She became silent. She began to think of Phil and Star, and what the woman said. What if she's the mother of Star? Why did she leave Phil?

"I already have the surgery scheduled and—"

"What if I don't survive it, Dmitri?" Chloe asked with a stoic expression on her face. Dmitri is doing the decision-making for her again. "I'm already close to finding out about who I was..."

"Fuck, Chloe. Is that important? What about our future?" Dmitri snapped.

"Our future won't exist if I die during the surgery. I know what it means, I know I have a slimmer chance this time."

Dmitri became defeated. "Is Phil really holding us back? All I know is that you just used him for sex."

"I might be the mother of his child, Dmitri," Chloe confessed and she started to cry. "I don't want to die without finding the truth or be with my daughter at least."

"W-what?"

Chloe told Dmitri what she knew so far and the latter was stunned. He knew that Phil was only her plaything. She refused to talk about him when she still had her memory. She told him about what Teddy said about her being pregnant. He knows Teddy, but Theodora suddenly left America when Chloe returned home with the Pikes after her long 'vacation'.

"I need to talk to Phil," Chloe insisted.

Dmitri was heartbroken and he left Chloe in the room to think. Things aren't going so well for him that week 'cause he found out about his father's illegal businesses and he hasn't told anyone about it. His father has ordered the murders of some people in the city. He has never felt so alone before. He was hoping that marrying Chloe would make him feel better during this overwhelming stage in his life, but she's disappearing from the picture too.
