POV Paradox

Why are there so many pov's?

It's understandable that you need pov's for exposition but it's becoming ridiculous. Some books have pov's from side characters! Nobody cares about them! A decent book, maybe a romance novel, can contain at least 2 pov's. The MC and the love interest.

Note: This doesn't mean you can go overboard.

Chapter 1 - MC POV
Chapter 2 - Love interest POV
Chapter 3 - MC POV
Chapter 4 - Love interest

Etc.

The book is about your MC's journey. Not her love interest. You can include his pov's only if necessary. Not because you feel like.

Then the side characters one.

MC POV: he held onto me tight.

Love interest: I held onto her tight.

MC bestfriends: I watched him hold onto her tight.

Love interest's friend: I joined in and watched everyone, cherishing the moment.

This is terrible because some writers think it's okay to include all these pov's in a single chapter but what makes it even more agonising is when the writer decides to give each pov their own sperate chapters.

Then it becomes agonising to read new chapters with the same thing over and over again from different points of views.
