Overused

6 in 10 stories will most likely start with the character dreaming something up. Be it weird or erotic. Whatever the writer options for.

This form of opening a story is downright irritating.

"I seemed to be floating. Wait, we don't float in reality. That's when I realised that I was dreaming."

Starting a book off with the MC having a lucid dream is just as bad as regular dreams. (A lucid dream is when one is aware of their dream state and is able to navigate as they please.)

My brother knows how to lucid dream at will. I wish I could. My dreams are just scripted like regular ones.

Anyways,

Stop starting your story off with dreams. It's overused.
