(y/c) and kaede had always gotten along well. they'd always helped each other out in group projects, could always rely on the other to send class notes, and would sit next to each other when they didn't know anyone else. but they weren't close. just really good acquaintances. kaede akamatsu had a perfect record. she'd never missed a day of class. so when they noticed she was gone in biology, and asked their lab partner, her friend, she told (y/c) that she was sick.
since when did kaede get sick? (y/c) had just assumed she had an insanely good immune system or something- or was enough of a germophobe to avoid ever getting sick. but this pattern continued for a while. kaede took a sick day the next week. and then two after that. no one else seemed to mention how odd this seemed, and despite the fact that she usually asked (y/c) for notes, kaede had stopped speaking to them altogether. any time they tried to approach her, she quickly turned and walked away in a hurry.
why was (y/c) the only one who noticed this? they needed to know what was going on, so they decided to confront her about it. they were planning on doing it after school, however, it didn't go that way. (y/c) and kaede didn't take the same foreign language, so they took different classes that period. (y/c)'s class let out early, so they were one of the the only ones in the hallway. it was completely silent- except for violent, labored coughing coming from the stairwell. when (y/c) went to investigate, they found kaede cowering in the corner, coughing into a tissue- unaware of the student behind her. there were two small petals on the ground that looked like they'd come from a flower. as the coughing fit calmed down, she removed the tissue from in front of her mouth- with a spot of dark red blood on it.

kaede akamatsu had a perfect record. she'd never missed a day of class. so when (y/c) didn't see her at school the next morning, they texted to ask where she was- she responded quickly, within a few minutes, telling them that she was sick. but since when did kaede get sick? (y/c) had just assumed she had an insanely good immune system or something- or was enough of a germophobe to avoid ever getting sick. but this pattern continued for a while. kaede took a sick day the next week. and then two after that. no one else seemed to mention how odd this seemed. whenever (y/c) tried to talk to her, she always seemed jumpy, and closed off. sometimes she would stand up and run to the bathroom without a moment's notice.

(y/c) and kaede took the same foreign language class- one of the few classes they shared. they were let out early that day, so there were only a few students in the halls. they were chatting a little bit, when all of a sudden, kaede started violently coughing. she fell to her knees, too weak to stand. as (y/c) tried to comfort her, though, they saw two small petals, flecked with spots of red, float down to the ground.
