the killing game was getting more and more exhausting as the days went on. there had already been— what? four trials, already...? nine of their classmates were gone, and only seven were left. six, if you didn't count the mastermind, that was.
a new motive was set to be released at any time today, and (y/c) was just biding their time until it was eventually announced. it was free time, and they were heading to meet up with someone, when they passed by kaede's lab. the door was shut, but (y/c) could hear two hushed voices behind the door. normally, they'd never be one to eavesdrop, but in a killing game, maybe it was best to cover all their bases. what if it was something that was important to the game? keeping that in mind, and reminding themselves that listening in was okay in this context, they pressed their ear to the door.
" what ?! no , no , that's insane ! that was never what we agreed to do! " that was kaede's voice— which would be expected, seeing as this was her lab. but what did she mean, 'agreed' to do? did she have some sort of alliance with somebody?
hearing the second voice made (y/c)'s heart drop in their chest. it was immediately recognizable. " ugh , you're such a goody - two - shoes ! sometimes life isn't fair , and sometimes contracts rope you into more than what you agreed to ! you've just gotta learn to roll with it ! " monokuma.
" you don't realize what you're asking me to do here ! this was never part of the deal ! it was just supposed to be telling you what was happening with everyone's relationships and what was happening in secret ! that's it ! " wait... what?
" do you really have that bad of a memory ? let me remind you why we're even doing this in the first place , sweetheart . if you wanna decide , after all this time , that our deal is off , then i can just go ahead and s — "
" n - no ! " kaede exclaimed, clearly panicked. " no , please don't , i'll ... i'll do it , okay ? "
there was an unsettling pause. " alrighty ! glad to hear it ! well , i'll see you and the others in a few hours ! " and then there was silence— monokuma had left. kaede was... working with monokuma? it didn't make any sense, she was the one who'd been trying so hard to get them all out of here! what had he offered her that had convinced her to sell them out like that?! before they could figure out to do with this new information, (y/c) could hear kaede sigh, and hear her footsteps heading for the door.
