after two murders and two trials, the remaining twelve students at the ultimate academy were, unfortunately, starting to get used to living here. nobody would admit it, though, but the schedule, the announcements... everything was just starting to become normal.
so when they were called to the gymnasium in the middle of the day, for a 'special announcement', they knew exactly what was coming. it was going to be another motive to kill. but, again, they already knew that refusing to go would mean being killed regardless. so there was no point in trying to avoid the announcement. slowly, the twelve students made their way to the gym as if, maybe if they went slow enough, they'd never have to hear what the motive was.
sure enough, though, they all arrived, and a few minutes after the last person had entered, up popped monokuma from behind the podium, tilting his head to the side slightly after a moment. " wow ! it's always such a surprise to come back to you guys after a trial and see how many of you there are ! i waited for a whole five minutes for tojo and hoshi to show up ! " he laughed, earning an even more tense atmosphere among the students. monokuma groaned. " huh , tough crowd , huh ? " (if you're a kirumi or ryoma anon, just replace them with someone else in that line)
" anyways , i'm sure you all know why we're here , so let's get started ! our first killer decided that they were too high and mighty to accept the first blood perk , so i decided that i might as well give you all another chance with that motive — but it's not going to be quite as easy as last time ! you can't just go kill whoever you want and get off scot - free ! " with that, the monokubs appeared, as if this had been rehearsed, and monokuma's last sentence had been their cue. one of them— monodam— had a small basket, with what could only be identified from a distance as paper. he turned around, saying something quiet and indecipherable to monokuma, before the larger bear said something back. monodam turned back around, and in turn, both monophanie and monotaro took four papers. the three of them spread out, starting to hand out the papers to the students.
" as you'll soon see , this is the new motive — the target perk ! " (y/c)'s focus was pulled away from monokuma's speech as monotaro held out a piece of paper to them— which, now that it was in front of them, could be identified more easily— it was an envelope. with their name on the front. hesitantly, they took it, and monotaro moved on. " if you can manage to kill the person whose name is written on the card inside your envelope, you'll be able to graduate without any extra casualties along the way , and with no class trial ! sounds appealing , huh ? i should also mention that your target's name is also in your monopad , but i forgot to tell you to bring those , " he admitted sheepishly. " anyways ! now that you all have your envelopes , i want you to open them ! this is part of the announcement , too , so i wouldn't recommend refusing something as silly as opening an envelope ! alright , three , two , one ... ! go ahead and open them ! " hesitantly, one by one, the students started to open their envelopes. feeling tense, (y/c) broke the seal on the envelope, sliding their card out halfway.

when (y/c) looked up from their card, monokuma and the kubs were already gone. maybe it was to force them to figure out this situation for themselves. glancing around the rest of the students, their eyes landed on kaede, who had already put her envelope in her backpack. seemed like she didn't want to think about it that much. she turned to meet (y/c)'s gaze, giving them a weak smile as she did so.
