it had been a few days since the first class trial. rantaro amami (or another character, if you're a rantaro anon) was killed by kaede akamatsu in her attempt to kill the mastermind. her plan had failed. she was executed, and (y/c), along with the rest of their class, was forced to watch. it was the most horrifying thing they'd ever seen.
(y/c) had gotten less sleep than normal. would they be next? killed in an instance of a mistaken identity? executed because of something they never meant to do and face a fate as twisted as kaede's?
a new motive had been given out. this time it was tangible and right in front of the students— videos of bad things happening to the viewers' friends and loved ones. they'd all believed that nobody would succumb to the last motive, so everyone felt a little on-edge, knowing that this kind of thing worked.
one day, on their way back to their room, (y/c) suddenly stopped outside of kaede's lab, going silent— they had just heard music coming from inside. maybe it was one of their classmates, trying to learn a song in honor of the late pianist. that was a sweet idea, (y/c) acknowledged. opening the door to find whoever was playing kaede's piano, they stopped immediately in the doorway, eyes wide.
at first sight, there appeared to be nobody there. the keys and pedals seemed to press themselves, and the page of sheet music seemed to flip on its own. but upon further examination, they could just make out the near-transparent outline of a person, who looked like a girl. (y/c) didn't believe in ghosts, but what other explanation was there?
that was undeniably kaede.
