We go to swim for about half an hour. Although its around 6:45 and the water cold. We go in. Even though it doesn't really work for me. Every time I try to swim I end up sinking. And every time we both laugh. At the end of it we lay at the bank of the lake. The cool breeze sweeping over us, and the sun setting.
"So how has your life been over these past 16 or so years?" I ask.
"A bit rocky... But over all fine."
"How'd you meet her?"
"It was May 11th. This year. It was a dark night, so me and my friends went to a bar. I know 'so typical' but it worked. When I met her she was chuging down her 6th shot,beyond drunk..." He stops. I can see him picturing her in the moment. I can tell he's not going to finish his story.
"One of the best days of my life." I say to break the silence.
"This is easily the second." He says.
I sit up,"What the first?"
"The day I met you."
"Gale.."
"Oh, come on catnip-" he rolls over to me and Caress my face. And leans in to a kiss.
I back up."Gale I am married and pregnant! And you are married!"
"We can change that."
"What is wrong with you?"
"Just give me a chance, give us a chance."
"There will never be an us!"
"Katniss... I don't understand-"
"Your right Gale! You never have and never will. I picked Peeta for a reason! Do I need to explain why?"
"Yes that would be very helpful."
"Think of it this like this way... What I need to 'survive' is not your fire, kindled with rage and hatred. As you know I have plenty of fire myself. What I need to survive is a dandelion in the spring. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. I am sorry gale."
He says nothing. And just looks at the night stars."Hena is making dinner. I am guessing that you are spending the night since it is close to 8. Your room will be across from the dinning room. On the left."
He helps me up, then walks ahead of me. Only to leave me behind.
