In this world, whenever you lose an item, it reappears in your soulmates possession.Ideas/possibilities I've thought of for this AU:
- Someone loses their significant others' anniversary gift for them. Only for that gift to end up in a total stranger's belongings.
- This prompt takes place before the invention of
cell phones/tech communication:
Two soulmates who met at an early age, promise to keep in touch when the other moves to a different state. Throughout the years, they continuously lose things on purpose. Specifically letters for each other.- Two 'forbidden' lovers are restricted from dating one another (arranged marriage/moving away/other circumstances, etc.) Years pass and the forbidden lovers haven't seen nor heard from each other in years. But then suddenly a child appears in [Person A's] home. PersonA sees a striking similarity to the child's face, and their past lover. But they ignore it and report the random child to the police station anyway, where a mother (or) father is frantically waiting for their lost child. Upon arriving, they both lock eyes. For the first time in many years.
- [Person C] doesn't care much about love/denies the concept of 'destined lovers' and lives their whole life ignoring their soulmates' lost letters to them. One day, they suddenly lose a very important item to them (could be a family heirloom/a gift/childhood item, something expensive, etc.) they realize that the item could be within their soulmate's possession, and proceed to lose a letter on purpose asking for them to lose the important item so it could be returned to them. The soulmate refuses, and sends them a lost letter back saying that they won't return it unless they learn to at least acknowledge them/meet them at least just once. PersonC agrees and in the course of several months, he/she slowly starts to open up to their soulmate. Slowly falling in love them.
- A groom is to be married to his arranged wife. Before the wedding ceremony, they end up losing the bride's wedding ring, and ends up in the possession of the groom's best friend/best man/ex-lover/past lover, etc. Options vary.
- A lovestruck person heavily awaits the day they get to meet their soulmate. But one day, they stumble upon their soulmate's lost item amongst their belongings. It was a polaroid photo of a couple titled with their names + a written love message and the date on the back. Signifying that their soulmate is already in love with someone else.
- Someone has lost a custom/handmade necklace a long time ago. They forgot about it all these years, and they are left confused as to why the new kid/new coworker wears a familiar looking necklace.
- Another prompt that takes place before the
invention of cell phones/tech:
Two soulmates have been losing letters on purpose over the course of many years, as a way to communicate/learn about each other. One day, [Person E] notices that their soulmate isn't losing letters or belongings anymore. Worried, they start writing to them and asking how've they been/what's going on, etc. However, years pass and PersonE hasn't gotten a single letter or a lost belonging from their soulmate. At this point, PersonE has given up, and moved on with their life. But one day, they happen to stop by a grave to visit a lost loved one. Only to realize that one certain headstone seems to bear a familiar name; their soulmate's name. Same birth date and everything. They then notice all the letters that have been piled up on the soulmates grave over the years, and immediately recognize the letters as the letters PersonE wrote to them years ago after the soulmate's 'disappearance'. They then notice one particular letter on their grave that PersonE does not recognize. PersonE opens it to find that it was a letter addressed to them from their soulmate.
At this point in the prompt, what the letter says is optional/can vary for what type of story you want to make out of it. Another example could be that the soulmate knew they were gonna die, (from a sickness?) and wrote the letter during their last days as a goodbye note for their soulmate; then asking for a close family member to put the goodbye letter on their grave after the funeral, in hopes that their soulmate would one day find it on the grave someday.
