My own Idea:
At the age of 16, everyone is able to talk and interact with their soulmate through their dreams. You stop being able to dream about them when you've finally met them in real life.
Bonus: Not everyone can see their soulmate in their dreams. Some only hear their voice, and some can only see their figure/shadow in the dream realm. And some are actually able to see their soulmate in full view. This all depends on how well you can lucid dream.
Scenarios:
- Soulmates never being able to meet each other in their dreams as often, because of the different time zones. It's only when one of them travels abroad for a business trip/vacation/etc. that they begin to see each other more often in the dreams because now their sleeping cycle matches.
