They sat together around a bond fire. It was quite, not one of them said a word. Naruto was itching to speak with his old comrade, but Sasuke was lost in thought. He was truly confused with his beliefs and his way of thinking. Would killing Naruto give him the power he needs? He also couldn't understand how [y/n] was fine, and it baffles him to see how they are now the complete opposite.

She seemed okay, she seemed happy, she seemed unbothered, and he hated it.

"How are you so okay?" Sasuke asked; his voice sounded irritated.

"Hm? What do you mean?" she responded, moving her attention towards her cousin.

"How can you live while knowing that everyone you loved is dead? How can you go on without wanting revenge?" Sasuke continued, his hand slowly turning into a fist.

"Oh, well, I may have lost my clan, but I didn't lose the ones that I love. Sasuke, my father hated me, and I've never met my mother, so I didn't know love. The only love I got before the demise of our clan was when my father patted my head after training for long periods at a time. I wasn't fortunate to have a family that loved me like you did. As cruel as this sounds, I have been so much better without the clan. Face it, no one accepted me since I was born out of wedlock, and I just suddenly appeared when my father came back to the village. Everyone treated me like the bastard child that I am," Sasuke looked at her in shock.

"My father hid me for as long as he could; he was embarrassed by his child. So maybe my lack of interest in getting revenge might be because, in some twisted way, Itachi saved me. I know that sounds horrible and disgusting, none of those lives deserved to be cut short, but why did Itachi do it? I thought about for a while now, and I don't think Itachi willingly killed the clan to test his strength, that's nonsense!" both of the males looked at [y/n] blankly trying to understand the words she was saying.

"You sound idiotic right now!" Sasuke spat.

"That night, he...he did it for his own selfish desires!" Sasuke stood up, looking down at [y/n].

"Then tell me what gain would he have from his whole clan being massacred?" Sasuke stood quietly, to infuriated to say anything.

"Exactly, there is something we are missing, I know for a fact Itachi was always kind and wanted the best for the village and the clan, just from my few encounters I could feel the kindness radiate from him!" [y/n] continued speaking, and each sentence caused more pain for Sasuke.

"[y/n] what are you trying to say?" Naruto looked up her, his face expressing a suspicious look.

"I-I don't know, but I want to do my research on the massacre because things aren't adding up. I have questions, and I need to find the answers," she replied, turning her gaze towards the fire once more.

"I've found love, Sasuke, that's the answer you wanted, right? I'm okay because I let others love me, and I let my self love others. Simple as that, I didn't let the hate brewing inside of me, control me. Even though I almost did," her [e/c] eyes watched the way the flames dance.

"Love? That's the answer to all of your problems?" Sasuke scoffed while turning around to go for a walk. He was annoyed with her stupid responses, and he couldn't stand to hear her speak any more.

"Not all of them, but most of them,"

"Sasuke, can we talk?" Naruto stood up, which caused Sasuke to look back at him.

"Why not? It seems like we are all in a talkative mood tonight,"

"Shikamaru, what drew you to [y/n]?" Shikaku asked as he placed his shogi piece onto the board.

"Umm, she was quiet and calm," he responded while he began to strategize his next move.

"Was?"

"...She still is at times, but she's broken out of her shell, I guess," he moved his piece slowly, a little hesitant of his placement.

"Do you see yourself marrying her?" Shikaku asked, as a father, he knew his son's weakness and strengths, and one of Shikamaru's fault was that he speaks his mind while playing shogi. Shikamaru is already putting so much thought into the game, which means he doesn't have the energy to put thought into his answers, making Shikamaru say the first thing that comes to mind.

"Yeah, I do," Shikamaru responded almost instantly, leaving the both of them to sit still. Shikaku's eyes widen in surprise, while Shikamaru finally comprehended what he said.

"I-I m-mean, why do you ask me things when we play?!" he grabbed a cigarette and placed it in between his lips.

"Do you love her?" his father continued.

"Very much," he mumbles, lighting the white stick in between his lips.

"She's your first girlfriend, do you think you can really spend the rest of your life with her?" though his father really likes [y/n], and he thinks she's a good match for his son. He couldn't help but question his sons motives, if they do plan to marry that's a large change in the Nara clan's blood line.

"I think it's a drag to plan so far ahead when I don't even know what I'm doing tomorrow, I'll live in the present and I'll see what my future brings me," Shikamaru simply responded, refocusing his attention back to the game he was desperately trying to win.

God, I miss her.
