Shikamaru made his way towards [y/n]'s house, with the picture of the master toads back.

"Hey Shikamaru," [y/n] suddenly flickered beside him. Shikamaru flinched in fear, not expecting to see her so abruptly.

"J-Jeez don't scare me like that," he huffed as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh, sorry Shika," she mumbled softly, she then slowly hooked her arm onto his.

"How you feeling?" he asked, knowing she and Naruto have been taking Jiraiya's death the worst.

"I'm just worried about Naruto," she sighed as her feet kicked rock along the dirt road.

"I'm on my way there now, you can talk to him then," he patted her head gently. It was silent for the rest of the walk, [y/n] just needs Shikamaru to be there for her, and that's precisely what he was doing.

"You ring the doorbell," Shikamaru instructed, and [y/n] did as told. It took a few moments, but a dead looking Naruto opened the door.

"Shikamaru, [y/n], what are you doing here?" he grumbled, the Uchiha began to open her mouth, but Shikamaru spoke instead.

"Can we come in?" Shikamaru questioned. Naruto only nodded yes and allowed the couple into his home.

"Naruto, where's your trash bags?" [y/n] asked once she saw the mess his home was.

"Kitchen," he mumbled while walking back to his bed. [y/n] quickly flickered to his kitchen and immediately began to clean for him. She didn't want to add more stress to Naruto, so she decided to clean his small apartment while the two of them spoke.

"[y/n] you don't have to do that," Naruto shook his head.

"Shh listen to Shikamaru!" she scorned him and continued to pick up the empty instant ramen bowls and other garbage.

Shikamaru spoke to Naruto, but he felt like nothing he was saying was getting through to the boy.

"Get up, let's go,"

"Where?"

"Well, you just listen," Shikamaru sighed as he walked towards the door.

"Shikamaru, stop being mean to Naruto!" [y/n] shoved him after picking up that last bits of trash.

"You too, let's go," the Nara intertwined his hand into hers. Ignoring her previous demand.

"So soon enough, we'll be senseis and have students we will have to entrust our knowledge to. So we have to grow and stop being brats," Shikamaru finished giving Naruto some advice.

"Brats?" [y/n] scoffed, which made Naruto snicker.

"You heard me," Shikamaru smiled at her.

"Thanks, Shikamaru," Naruto smiled at his friend.

"No problem Naruto. Just keep your head up and work hard, so you can attempt to be as cool as Lord Jiraiya," the Nara winked.

"You're right! I-I gotta go! I have to finish my sage mode training!" Naruto perked up again, his sadness still there but no longer holding him back.

"Bye, Naruto!" [y/n] shouted as she watched her best friend runoff. The Uchiha then placed a light kiss on Shikamaru's cheek.

"Thank you, Shikamaru," she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"For what?" he tilted his head in confusion.

"For being you," she grinned while placing a sweet kiss onto his lips.

"Let's go cloud watching?" he suggested.

"You don't have to tell me twice!" she then flickered them to their favorite hill. Once touching the ground, Shikamaru immediately found himself lying down on the fresh grass.

"Come here," he yawned as he opened his arms for [y/n] to enter them.

"Is it nap time already?" she laughed while cuddling up into his chest.

"Mhm," he hummed, keeping her close.

Neither of them foreseeing the drastic chain of events that were soon to come.
