Paul's Residence

As soon as Paul awoke the following morning, he left his bedroom. Once he got to the living room, there were very little signs that someone had been in his house the night before. Then, he started looking to make sure nothing was stolen, which, nothing was.

He started searching for anything that could lead to finding whoever was in his house. He decided to phone John and let him know what was going on.

John's Residence

John was asleep when he got the phone call from Paul that had woke him up. Unfortunately, he didn't have a chance to look at the phone when he saw someone walk past his room through the crack of the door. He knew it wasn't Cynthia because she was asleep right next to him.

He got out of bed and slowly walked up to the door before slowly opening it. The first thing he did was go to his son's room to make sure he was fine, which he was. He picked Julian up and slowly brought him to the master bedroom, where his wife was still sleeping, and set him on the bed. Then, his phone rang again and he walked over to answer it.

"What?"

"Ey John. Its Paul."

"Ey. Can't talk right now."

"Its important. Listen, someone came into my house last night."

"Wait.........what?"

"Someo--"

"I heard you. Someone's in my house right now."

There were footsteps outside the bedroom.

"Paul, I'll call ye soon."

"John, wait until I get there before doing something stupid."

"Sorry Paul. Not when my family are in danger. I'll be fine."

"I'm on my way."

Then, John hung up. He approached the door again. He had no weapons with him either. He had always left his gun at the office and his pocket knife was downstairs in a locked drawer.

He slowly opened the door again and stepped out. He then heard movement downstairs and pretty much sprinted quietly down. Whoever was there, was gone.

Paul arrived a few minutes later and John let him in through the front door.

"Ey Paul."

"Alright?"

"Yeh. I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"Because You told me someone was currently in yer house."

"He left."

John walked up to the back door. "Question is, how'd he get in?"

"John, could it have been the same person in my house?"

"Maybe. Maybe its the guy we need. He's messing with us. He went to yer house last night. He came to my house this morning. Makes me wonder how many times he came to our houses."

"You think he came here before?"

"Yeh. I do. He's messing with us and he won't stop until we get to him."

"How do you plan to get him?"

"I don't know. Tonight, I'm going to stay awake."

"All night?"

"Yeh. All night. I wanna make sure he doesn't come back while I'm asleep again."

"He might not."

"But he also might."

"What if its another night? Ever think of that?"

"Then I won't sleep until he's captured."

"Don't stay up."

"My son is at risk. I'm not putting him at risk. He was in the next room over when a stranger came inside my house."

"He'll be fine. Keep him in yer room for a while."

"Maybe I will. Tonight, I'm still going to stay awake. He could show."

"Do what you will. Now, did he take anything? Was it a robbery?"

"I don't think so." John said as he began to look around. "Looks like everything's still in place. Why? Was it a robbery for you?"

"Oh, no. Same as you. My house just has evidence that someone was inside last night."

"Okay. So, we need to catch this guy before he drives me insane." John said getting a map. Then, he set it on the coffee table and examined it. Then, he started pinpointing where all the home invasions were. The last houses he pinpointed were his and Paul's.

"This doesn't make sense. They're just random."

"So, nothing to connect them?"

"No. All except the fact that he still makes those fake calls of home invasions a few houses down from the actual home invasion."

"Yeh. I don't get that. He doesn't take anything. He just scares whoever's left there. And, he only targets those who live alone."

"But he targetted me too. Don't forget that."

"I know. He's only screwing with ye. He wants you on edge."

"I see that. I'm on edge right now. Maybe I should buy a safe, put it in my closet upstairs, bring my gun home and put it in the safe."

"If yer going to get a safe, get one with a combination lock so yer kid can't get in it."

"That was the plan. I have a right to shoot if someone breaks into my home."
