"Okay. You  wanna work things out? Meet me at my house around noon. It'll just be you and me. No one else will be in the house. Not my wife, not my son. Just you and me."

"Yeh. Yeh. I get it. I'll see you then."

John hung up the phone and shook his head. He lad less than thirty minutes to get his family out of the house just in case Alfred would try anything.

So, he immediately told Cynthia that she needed to go for a walk or take Julian to the park or something for a while so he could deal with his father. She had agreed to it and told him where she would be.

After about 15 minutes, she left. It was now 5 minutes 'til 12 when he heard a knock on the front door. He automatically knew who it was. What Alfred didn't know was that John had called Paul over as well.

John opened the door and invited him in.

"Good to see ye John."

"I can't say the same for you. Now, I kicked you out of my house last time because I had to follow my instinct on you. I didn't trust you. I still don't. Now, what do you want?"

"Look, we've spent over a year going at each other's throats."

"I know. Its a meracle that yer the one who wants to suddenly work things out with me."

There was another knock on the door.

"You expecting anyone?" Alfred asked.

"As a matter of fact, I am. Why? Getting nervous?"

"No. Just asking."

John walked up to the door and opened it to let Paul it.

"Afternoon Paul. Come in."

Paul nodded and walked in seeing Alfred standing beside John's recliner.

"John closed the door and both of them walked into the living room again.

"I invited Paul over because, you know, he's me mate and I trust him with my life."

"I thought it was just going to be you and me."

"And Paul. I just didn't mention that he was going to be over."

************

They had been talking for several hours before Alfred had to leave. Once he left, John turned to Paul. "Thanks for coming. Who knows what could've happened if you weren't here."

"Call me anytime. I think it went okay."

"Yeh. Right now it did. Wait for another talk with him. I can't guarantee it'll turn out the same way."

"I know. Just give it time."

"I've given it plenty of time. Now, its 4pm. Come on. Lets do something before we waste the day." Then, John remembered. "Wait, gotta let Cyn know she can come home."

"Yer car or mine?" Paul asked.

"Yers. Yer a better driver."

"Ah. That's right. Yer a careful one aren't ye? Except when you carry a gun and a badge. Then you drive like a maniac."

"That, I do. Yer still driving. Yer not getting out of it."

"Darn. I just didn't wanna drive you around. Why can't ye drive me around for once?"

John shrugged. "Because I just don't want to."

"Makes sense. I don't want to drive you around. So, who's driving."

"Still you."

Paul sighed. "Alright. Fine. You owe me supper."

"Okay. But yer buying."

"John, when I say 'you owe me', it normally means that yer the one buying."

"Fine. I'll buy supper."

Paul smiled and grabbed his car keys. He picked up his jacket, put  it on, and walked toward the door with John following him.

"Pick up the others. Lets all get together."

"You sure yer still not sick of them? After all, it took us so long to get away from them."

John laughed. "Nah. Its fine. I'm sure that if I see them long enough today, that feeling will come back."

The two had walked out the door and went to Paul's car.

"So, where do you wanna go?" Paul asked.

"Uh..........not quite sure. You pick."

"Yer starting to sound like a bird."

"What?"

"They always tell whoever they're with to pick where to go to eat. Yer picking."

"I don't know Macca."

"Yes you do."

"I don't really."

"Okay fine. After we pick the other two up, we go to the first place we see. How's that strike ye?"

"Right in the heart."

"Good. That way, we don't have to choose a specific place to eat."
