LEO POV
Dr. Watts led us through the corridor we went past a few exam rooms, and a bathroom and a few offices one door had the plate that said 'Dr. Gabriel Watts DDS'
Then we finally walked in a exam room, it was colorful and made for children, yea I was only 7 so that makes sense I was expected to go into one of those 'plain' exam rooms.
"Take a seat" Dr. Watts said
"Also if it makes you comfortable call me Gabriel or Gabe just don't do it I'm front of other patients because they wouldn't know who you were talking about" Gabe chuckles
I let out a chuckle but I still did not want to take a seat in the chair in the middle of the room.
There were cabinets and a countertops and a thing that held all the electric tools, that's when I noticed the drill
I gasped that seems something that will really hurt it looks really painful but I didn't know how it works.
Gabe looks at me then saw I saw his drill.
"Don't worry Leo I won't use that on you unless you had a cavity.. which I hope you never get because they hurt" Gabe said
"I'll make sure he doesn't get one, I don't want him to get one" Connor said
I sigh. Then I finally gather enough courage to sit in the big dental chair in the middle of the room.
Gabe then places a bib on me which I didn't know what it was for
"I'm not a baby I don't need this" I say as I begin trying to take it off
Connor took my hands off the bib. "No no don't take it off it prevent you from drooling all over yourself"
"Oh" I say
Gabe washes his hands and snaps on gloves and a mask and positions his head light. Then reclined the chair.
I didn't know the chair would recline which was weird.
He grabs two scary looking tools then says "say ahhh"
"Wait what are those tools" I sit up in a panic
"This here is my mirror it's used to look around all sides of your teeth and here is my explorer which I tap teeth and scrape the bits of plaque off your teeth, they don't hurt" Gabe explains
"Oh that is quite cool" I say and lay back down.
"Say Ahh" Gabe said
"You know he never been to a dentist in his life?" Connor struck up conversation
Leo opens his mouth. Gabe starts looking around in his mouth there was a few bits of plaque on his teeth which he scraped off then he counted his teeth and recorded.
"Are you serious?" Gabe said
"Dead serious" Connor chuckles
"Your supposed to see one when your 12 months old or when your first tooth comes in, did she not have insurance?" Gabe questioned
"I honestly don't know I went to college when I was 18 and moved out, he was only a few months old when I moved out" Connor said
"Okay, alright Leo I'm gonna take a few xrays bud is that alright?" Gabe said as he returns the chair to normal state then applies a giant lead jacket over Leo's small 7yr old body.
"What's this?" Leo asked
"It's to protect you from radiation" Gabe said
"Oh" Leo said then grabs a bite wing
"Open" Gabe said and Leo opens and Gabe puts the bite wing on one side
"Okay bite down" Gabe says then Leo bites down perfectly.
Then a camera came to the side of his face "Connor you have to step outside for a second I don't want you getting exposed"
Connor nods and steps out of the room.
then Gabe goes outside the room and takes a picture by pressing the button.
It made a buzzing noise.
Gabe came back in and took it out then put another one on the other side and did the same process and removes the giant lead jacket on Leo
Then a few minutes later the pictures popped up on the computer and Gabe observed them after taking his gloves off and lowered his mask.
"I am surprised on how well he takes care of his teeth, expect one is crowding another one which may leave him in discomfort, so that one may have to be pulled" Gabe said in a uneasy tone knowing it is Leo's first appointment.
"He has to get a tooth pulled?" Connor says quietly
"Yea. But it won't be today because I have another patient in like 20 minutes, but I'll send in my hygienist and have her clean his teeth okay?" Gabe says
"Sounds good, nice seeing you" Connor says
"Nice seeing you, and nice seeing you Leo" he says and gives knuckles to Leo which made him chuckle, good thing Leo didn't hear the part about having his tooth pulled being the curious kid he is
A few minutes later a hygienist came in the room and Gabe left the room
The hygienist sat on the stool washes her hands and applies gloves and mask and reclined the chair
"Hi sweetheart I'm Izzy and I'll be cleaning your teeth today" Izzy said
"Okay" Leo said
"What kind of toothpaste you want? I have watermelon, mint,cookie dough, grape and bubblegum" she says
"Bubblegum!" Leo exclaims
"Good choice!" Izzy says as she grabs the small pod of toothpaste from one of the cabinets and sets it on the tray.
Then grabs her little electric toothbrush
She showed what the toothbrush does to Leo and allowed Izzy to polish Leo's teeth.
Once she was done she put fluoride on his teeth. "No eating or drinking for half an hour"
Leo and Connor nod
The bib was taken off Leo the chair was returned to normal state. Then Izzy Gabe Leo a goody bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a little toy.
Then Connor and Leo left and they went home
Leo still didn't know he had to get a tooth pulled
