Chapter 29

I closed my locker and jumped when I saw Shane standing there with his arms in his pocket staring at me.

"You scared me" I said putting a hand to my chest.

"Sorry" he said smiling sheepishly.

We began to walk and I noticed that he was sending glances my way.

"Yes Shane?" I said stopping to look at him.

"Uh- I was just wondering if you...you know...wanted to do a duo with me for the competition" he shrugged and looked at me hopefully.

That was actually a good idea.

"Yeah sure" I said grinning at him.

"Great" he said pecking me on my cheek and walked down the hallway.

I was beetroot red.

Did he really like me?

"Wait! Shane!" I shouted after him and he stopped turning to me.

I walked up to him.

"Um, my family wants me to invite you and your family to a dinner this evening" I said remembering last night.

"Nice, just text me the address...I'll be there" he winked and I smiled.

I dismissed the thought of him possibly liking me and began to walk to class.

"Hey Zaya" I said lifting up Julia's sister and spinning her.

I was currently at Julia's house because of this 'emergency' she called me for.

She giggled and hugged me tight.

"Shana!" She shouted.

At her young age she said my name perfectly, even Shane's sister, Nara, said it perfectly.

Something was really wrong with Drew when he was a child.

"What's up kiddo?" I asked stooping to her level when I put her down.

"I'm watching Snow white, wanna watch?" She asked cutely.

"Of course princess" I said ruffling her hair.

I sat in the couch beside her and we started to watch the movie.

"What are you doing on my couch?" I heard a voice behind me.

I turned around and saw Julia looking at me.

"I own it bitch!" I shouted then remembered that Zaya was right beside me.

"Sorry, Zay" I said holding my ears and pouting.

She huffed and smiled, obviously forgiving me.

"C'mon Shanny, Zay I'm borrowing for a while okay?" Julia said while I got up.

"Okay" Zaya said engrossed in her movie.

We went up to Julia's room and when I walked in she slammed the door behind her and pushed me onto her chair.

"I have a plan" she said sitting on her bed.

"Which is?" I gestured for her to elaborate.

"Which is to make Shane jealous to know if he really likes you" she grinned.

This was the emergency?

Ugh.

"He doesn't like me Juli"

"How do you know that?" She asked.

"He said it himself, we're best friends...just like me and you" I said spinning in her chair.

"It won't hurt to try" she said and I groaned.

"It'll make this complicated Juli, I hate complicated" I said frowning.

She gave me the puppy face.

Ugh.

What was there to lose? I knew he didn't like me like that already.

"What do you have in mind?" I sighed.

Julia squealed.

I was starting to regret this.
